The Rays are screwed for a long time unless you get someone in there who doesn't have crabs in his pockets. It's disgraceful that the Devil Rays have been this bad for this long. It's sad because your fans campaigned for this Steinberg dickweed and he's just as bad as Naimoli.

This is called "Look we are trying!"

Actually the 5.22 ERA is more than a run LESS than the current combined ERA of the Rays bullpen.

These were just the "hopeful" lateral moves that rarely pan out and are a dime a dozen.

We've been "trying" for 10 years now & despite every single losing season we fans remain "hopeful." It's no wonder why people snicker when they ask who my favorite team is.

Mediocre moves make for mediocre results. I'm giving management one more season, which is being generous, then I jump ship for good.

What's not to like? Dan Wheeler is not a pitcher of that ERA - he just had one crap month. View the two previous years. He fills a big need. Shackleford is a LOOGY with a .190 BAA vs lefties - he, too, fills a big need, and hopefully we can count the days until Fossum is cut and he is called up. Medlocks is not a lot, but nor was Cumberland.

And to get anything, anything at all for Cantu and McClung, was a bonus.

Dan Wheeler is a very good setup guy/closer. He just had one shocking month of June - the one blemish in three awesome years. Balfour just has to be mediocre to be a success. Shackleford, if used correctly, should be a piece.

At this point, anything is better.

I agree though....at least Wheeler is a major league pitcher.

Balfour (please change that name) is aggressive, so maybe there is a chance.

Hated to see Wiggy go, but there are better options coming up.

Al Reyes is a name that keeps popping up. The Yankees & Mariners are interested, but I'm not sure if anything will happen by 4pm today?

I'm going to really miss Wiggy.
