Jahlil Okafor anyone?

Post#1 » by MUpacersSIC » Fri Oct 27, 2017 8:41 pm

The guy can play, just needs to continue to work defensively. I'd make him the backup center to play next to Sabonis off the bench. I'd rather give him a chance than watch Al Jefferson continue to be the main backup. Anyone else interested in him? He's still only 21, and puts up decent numbers in the small minutes he gets.

Everyone complaining about Al Jefferson and then wanting to trade for the next Al Jefferson.

Pass.

If they would take a 2nd or 2 2nds I'd be for it. But I would not give a #1 for him.

I understand the Al Jefferson argument, and I do think the league will continue to see more successful teams with guys like Sabonis at center compared to slow post up guys like Okafor and Jefferson, but it's not like we are complaining about prime Jefferson here either. Okafor's age at least gives up some advantage compared to Big Al.

It makes sense to at least inquire about him. I would take him over Jefferson.

In the playoffs guys who can score are valuable. He's a guy that can score and create for others on the block. For short spells that can be valuable. Especially in late games when the game slows down.

Exactly, but like others have said, I'd do it for no more than two 2nd's.

He's young, and he's a talent, so there has to be some interest.

That said, with Turner, Sabonis, and Leaf, our front court is extremely young and promising, so Okafor would be more of a luxury than a need. We're not in a position to pursue luxuries unless they' come at a price too good to pass up.

Maybe Philly wants to make a playoff push this year, or just wants more of veteran presence on their team, and we can give them one of Al Jefferson, Thad Young, or Bojan Bogdanovic for Jahlil. I could live with that.

Jefferson is my first offer. perhaps an exchange of picks in 2019.

No thank you from me.

As everyone says, he doesn't fit what we want to do, and we have 3 young bigs ahead of him already who are all better suited to the modern game. Even if we manage to get him for a cheap price, he's not going to have much opportunity here. Like Al Jeff, he'd be sitting on the bench if everyone is healthy.

I understand the Al Jefferson argument and your argument, but Philly has traded Noel Nerlens and Embiid played only 31 games in his first 3 seasons and still they don't want to give minutes to Okafor? That is a red flag to me and together with the style he plays, makes I don't have any interest in him. Would prefer to see how Turner, Sabonis and Anigbogu fill in the center position anyway. We have 4 other positions with (a lot) less potential.

Why?

We have Turner, Sabonis and Leaf. 3 young promising bigs that can run the floor. Okafur does not fit with what 5he Pacers are trying to do.

I’ll pass and concentrate on working with Ike to be our 4th big.

We have a lot of young front court talent already, there's just no good reason to give up anything of value for Okafor, I honestly don't think he will succeed in the league. He's a post guy who can't defend or rebound, and he thinks he's a starter level talent when he probably is better suited to a bench role (ie: potential malcontent).

Does anyone think they would take a 2019 and 2020 2nd for him? The Pacers don't get much from their 2nds anyhow, might as well take a chance.

If we don't have to give up much for him, I'd be open to it. That said, I don't think it happens for 2nd round picks.

I just don't get what the 76ers are doing. They already traded Noel for practically nothing. Now they're letting a former third overall pick sit on the bench and collect DNP-CDs?? They should have moved him awhile ago. Now we are wondering if we can get him for spare change. And if you can get high level talent for spare change, you do it every time and figure out the fit later. It just seems like going to the 6ers is like the worst thing that could have happened to Okafor's career.

It would also, I think, make moving Thad Young a more immediate need that way we could run Turner/Okafor at center and Sabonis/Leaf at power forward.

I do like the idea of competition bringing out the best in people. Jahlil and Domantas fighting it out in practice . . .

Let's not forget that for all of the complaints about him, Okafor is a 20/8/2 per-36 for his career, and is still just 21.

I was in favor of trading for him not too long ago, but that ship has sailed. I don't see how he'd get any minutes once Turner comes back.
