it is downright insulting to fans who know a thing or two about basketball that billy donovan would claim pre-game that "carmelo anthony is a good defensive player". and then go on to play andre roberson 9 minutes against a team that roasted us before.
once again, the effect of not having andre roberson on the wing is seen ad nauseum. there was zero communication on the perimeter defensively, grant made incorrect rotation repeatedly putting other guys in awkward spots (leading to fouls), and most important, there was nobody in the game to cover for russell westbrook and carmelo anthony's laziness. i mean, there was one play in this 4Q where jeff teague and taj gibson executed the slowest pick and roll of human history. melo and russ still decided to switch it. and of course the wolves score.
aside from the issue with not having dre on the court, rw giving this game away in 2Q playing like bad russ was a disappointment. the sentiment that the thunder (and russ) are a team that can sleep walk and win games in 4Q is flawed and not conducive to winning. watching rw and others play the game at times like it's a circus performance is disappointing.
again, aside from the rotation problems, this is what looks like a poorly coached team with poor discipline and a leader whose bbiq comes and goes depending on how much the other player is scoring on him.
another sequence that comes to mind is josh huestis making a three, then the team running plays for him like he's ray allen or larry bird. the failure to realize that every possession counts separates the thunder from the best teams.
