Myles Turner

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Thu Oct 26, 2017 8:03 pm

Is anybody else starting to get more worried about his injury?

It's crazy bc it happened late in the game vs the Nets on the pick-n-roll and he not only stayed in the game but practiced the next day. And he hasn't picked up a basketball since with no time table or clues to how long it will be.

A little bit, but concussions can be super weird things. I had a distant cousin who got a concussion and was still having some memory problems a few years later. It's hard to know exactly what we are dealing with without hearing from his actual doctors.

Hopefully that's not what we are dealing with here. I sincerely hope the team is just taking the extra safe route and not rushing the kid back to play in early season games until he is absolutely ready.

Probably good he didn't face that monster from the Adams' family, Steven.

Yea, its definitely worrisome.

Though sports are treating concussions much differently than they use to.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2013/07/31/concussions-keeping-nfl-players-off-the-field-longer/2604023/

NFL players who suffered concussions last season spent an average of 16 days off the field, a significant increase from previous years, according to new injury data from 2012.

That is an increase of nearly 10 days per concussion since 2009, though the total number of concussions have remained relatively flat in that time, said Dr. Jesse David of Edgeworth Economics, which conducted an independent analysis of the data provided by the NFL Player's Association.

The extended recovery time for concussions is an indication that the league's efforts to better identify and treat head injuries are working, and not that the severity of head injuries is getting worse, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told USA TODAY Sports.

Players missed an average of only 6.4 days after suffering a concussion in 2009, and only 4 days per concussion in 2005, according to the research.

So him missing this much time isn't completely crazy anymore. However, they keep referencing his neck being in pain...and that could be something else entirely. Though, I suspect with media and doctors today, if it was something serious, we would have heard about it by now.

He'll be alright. This concussion thing is a big deal now. All the sports are taking it real serious.

I'm always worried when it comes to injuries.

The Pacers often draft players who carry health question marks or who run awkwardly.

Sometimes it works out (Granger) sometimes not (Bender). Those question marks are usally the reason why other teams shy away from drafting them (see Granger and Turner) and they are always in the back of my head.

Turner missed 22 games in his rookie season and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again. He doesn't need too much contact either, he got the thumb injury also in game.

Thank God we have Sabonis now and we don't have to start Al Jefferson :)

Turner's injury his rookie year has absolutely nothing to do with why teams were backing away from him. It literally could have happened to anyone.

I think not. We all have different bone structures and people with small thick hands with very strong bones have a (much) smaller chance to hurt their thumb the way Turner hurt his. For a player his height, teams can't be careful enough and have to consider all possible health problems. His hip problem was the most obvious question mark, but I doubt it was the only one. Skinny, long guys like him without good stability can suffer other injuries too. The thumb injury didn't surprise me.

He'll be fine. The protocol to come back is now very strict as it should be.

It's been less than a week. I'm not too concerned yet. If he is out 2 weeks with no return in sight, then I'll be concerned.

Yeah he broke his thumb that's not like Granger's knee issue, you get hit by a basketball wrong and you can break a finger or thumb or damage ligaments. Or you bang into a guy and jack your thumb, they fix it and you go on, nothing like a knee issue.

No. Just saying that his injuries could explain why teams let a 7footer with his talent slip. Could, not have to.

Similar to how Paul George's lack of killer instinct could explain why we were able to draft him.

I'm not pessimistic about Turner's health, just a bit worried because he has so much talent and NBA teams measure a lot of things most of us don't even think about before they draft someone.

I don't want to trade him (yet :P ) I like making trades you see :P

The negativity is strong with you, try to stay just a bit more positive. This might help you here.

Turner (concussion) has officially been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Spurs (about 2 hours ago)

Not going to lie, I'm officially a bit worried now. He has been missing a lot of time and I'm wondering if he has a more serious injury with his neck that they are not mentioning.

I did not think he'd be missing this much time.

Right! McMillan did say after the game that Turner has improved "a little bit" so we will see, but i think it goes without saying he will not be playing on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I just don't understand how he is out this long. NFL players play a much more physical sport and they don't miss this much time with a concussion.
