Tickets are still available--

Millsap returns to Atlanta as Nuggets face Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks finally play their home opener Friday night against the Denver Nuggets after beginning the season with five consecutive road games.

The Hawks, who are 1-4 after a 91-86 loss at Chicago on Thursday, were expected to be a work in progress, and that is certainly the case.

New GM Travis Schlenk would only forecast before the season that the team would "play hard and play together and play the right way, and we are going to be able to live with the results."

Point guard Dennis Schroder helped lead the Hawks to a season-opening victory at Dallas but has missed the past two games with a sprained left ankle. He may return against the Nuggets.

The home opener will debut the first phase of Philips Arena's two-year makeover, which will cost $192.5 million. The team played its two home exhibition games at Georgia Tech.

I'm going to the game. Want to make sure Paul gets a big standing O. I hope Collins gets some big dunks. It'd be nice if Baze quits trying to playmake. A win would be nice.

This is the one I've had marked on my calendar for the longest time. The home opener to a new Hawks season is like an unofficial New Years for me, can't wait to give Millsap a standing ovation tonight as well.

:o

Facts about tonight's game:

1- The Atlanta Hawks have spent all this season, to this point, on the road. Even in pre season, they did not
play in Phillips arena. Hawks that are new to the team this season, whether they came by trade, free agency
or the draft, have never played here as a Hawk. All the other players on the team have never played in the
new, revamped arena. Remember, this is home!

2- Coming "home" with only one victory, we are hoping to have some of our injured Hawks back on the floor.
As bad as we were expected to be, spending our entire season on the road and playing our last game with
two starters unavailable made the odds against our Hawks go up quiet a bit.

3- Last season, Hawks had one all star, Millsap. Off season, he left Atlanta, signing with tonight's opponent.
They are supposed to be much better this season and are in the western division, which is much stronger.
They, like our Hawks, have but one victory.

4- It's true. Atlanta is expected to win only 27 games. We are not expected to be very good. Still, we want
to win every game possible. If this doesn't get the team pumped up, we are doomed. I don't believe that. We
will show up and show out. Just hope we don't overdo it and get someone hurt bad.

WELCOME "HOME" ATLANTA HAWKS !!

I'm missing opening night for the first timein a long time :( .
@mac-d check out the cricket tacos.
Atlanta Hawks executives are chirping about the new food debuting this season at their arena: Crickets.

Looking to create some buzz, executive sous chef Blake Stembridge struck a deal with edible cricket brand Aketta to give fans the opportunity to experience protein in a new form.

"We did an internal taste test and people really loved them," said Robert DiCicco, vice president of hospitality and strategy at Phillips Arena. "As part of transforming our concessions experience, we want to give people the chance to try something here that they normally wouldn't consider."

The Hawks will become the latest team to serve insect dishes, with crickets on the menu. Aketta

Fans of the Hawks, who play their home opener on Friday night versus the Denver Nuggets, can get their crickets in two forms.

A one ounce bag of crickets, in a sweet and spicy flavoring Aketta made just for the Hawks, sells for $4.50. A taqueria in the arena is offering three tacos with crickets, avocado, cilantro, onion and queso for $12.

DiCicco said a pimento cheese sandwich with deep fried cricket crumbs is being worked on and will be available sometime this season.

The Hawks got their inspiration to sell edible insects from the Seattle Mariners, who were the talk of Major League Baseball for selling grasshoppers this season.

:(

Someone said, "Prince can hit the 3 ball." Tonight, he proved it, going 3 for 5 from downtown.
Hawks didn't get to the line very often but they hit all of them when they did make it, I think.
Giant sized Nuggets inside and we couldn't. Collins tried, only to collect foul after foul.
Will we ever win again? Oh, yeah. Maybe the next one!!

GO ATL HAWKS !!

Damn just got off work, how's the renovation look? Also dear lord let this tank year pay off in the draft. I'm almost kinda scared with a new front office I know next to nothing about. Hope schlenk & co know how to evaluate talent better than bud.

I usually don't like to fuss at the refs but they called some stuff on the Hawks on one end and held their whistle on the other end.

Mason Plumlee is what I wish Moose would be or at least close to. Moose is such a weakling and hawkward.

Welcome back Dennis!

Saw a replay of the end of the first, to me that was the difference, don't wanna see more.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Another successful game for the tank. It'll all be worth it if we draft a superstar next summer.

Jamaaliver:

Watch the "Dumb Daddy" commercial we see regularly on TV. The 10 year old son points out that NBA games
are "NEVER" sold out. All you have to do is go to their page and get tickets and they are always available and
they are never fake.

Now days, dads are always weak minded in commercials. This is just another example. Now remember, there
is no such thing as being sold out. If you don't believe this, watch the commercial!

Ps I'm out of town and have missed the last two games but read the threads anyway. Need to go back and watch.

Dedmon is the best defender, Dennis is the best player...Delaney the worst at pretty much everything.

Sounds about right.

Delaney and Bazemore are running this tank.

In fairness to Baze he had a few good plays driving but he also got into one of his spurts in the 2nd quarter where he just tries to do way too much and ends up pumping momentum into the opposition with his awful play.

The day his contract expires will be the day this team gets an albatross off its neck.
