Lakers / Suns
Bledsoe, Chandler
for
Lopez, Clarkson
Lopez is unique these days... Elite Post Game + Elite Big Man 3pt shooting (funny huh), with shot blocking skills.
Clarkson is a young-ish combo guard who can be a long term 6th man guard solution.

We've put some thoughts together on the Bled situation, McD's history in these situations and some potential deals for Bledsoe. Would be interested in your thoughts: https://thefourpointplay.blog/2017/10/28/nba-phoenix-suns-ryan-mcdonough-bledsoe-plan/
I have to say, that write up it spot on! Very very good job! Most fans of other teams rarely look into the situation as deep, and we find ourselves going to great lengths trying to make them understand the whole situation at hand, only to get back a sarcastic response or outright denial.
You nailed McD. He is a clever GM, shrewd when it comes to trades, and damn near always gets more than what everyone expects, hence why i think he will get more for Bledsoe that a lot of the crap offers that are being thrown around here on RealGM and by the media talking heads.
The trades that you posted are also spot on and i would do every single one of them.
Also, love the White Men Cant Jump quote, as it fits in perfectly.
Much props on everything, great write up!

Honestly. Good article. I think reflects the situation pretty fairly. And the trade proposals are fair. There are some that the Suns would not be interested in but not because the trade is lopsided.
About the PR battle. McD does not have to win a PR battle. Many of the most successful GM's were not very well-liked. He does have to be fair. Klutch's tactic here is to be unprofessional and outrageous, and if the sports media cannot see that, there is not much to do about it. Most of the sports media are former players and need players for interviews, so they are totally biased.
Patience and winning games will be the solution to this problem.

People were talking about how Brooklyn won't be a bottom 5 team, and I do like a lot of their players, but I looked at their schedule so far....Pacers, Magic, Hawks, Magic, Cavs, Knicks. I don't know which teams will finish at the very bottom in the east, but they haven't even played the Bulls yet. Those teams will rack up wins against each other. Meanwhile I see OKC and Minnesota battling and teams like Denver with losing records. Everyone in the west is going to kill the mid to bottom tier in the east. We might be better than quite a few teams in the east but will finish with a worse record just because of the conference. I've already mentioned this but it's worth pointing out again...all these teams have to have wins when they play one another. There are so many fewer of those games in the west. I will never pull for our team to lose, but I think despite being potentially better than a number of teams, we still very easily have one of the worst records, which bodes well for our pick. As long as the young guys develop, I am happy, and if we play really well and do better, obviously I am happy because our young guys are developing and learning how to win. But as far as draft picks go, it's better to be in the west this year because wins will be much harder to come by.
Its the exact reason they need to get rid of the whole East/West conference. I mean they could just take the top 14 teams in the league for the play-offs, but you would still have the issue of Eastern Conference teams playing against each other more than against the West (Even though the West would still dominate the overall standings).
Gotta eliminate the Conferences!
I've thought about this and how to work a schedule around it. My idea:
- Expand to 32 Teams
- Divide the league into 8 regions of 4 teams each
- Teams play every team twice, one home and one away (62 games)
- Teams play each team in their own region 4 games total every season (68 games)
- Regions play home and away games against one other region each season in a rotating system like in the NFL (76 games)
- Playoffs are seeded 1st best record to 15th best record
- Final playoff spot is decided in a 16 team, single eleimination play in tournament, team with the worst record does not participate
The system removes conferences, balances the schedule, promotes regional rivalries, delivers star players into more markets more often, shortens the season, creates a new NBA property to off set the lost revenue of a shortened season and gets a team back in Seattle.

jcsunsfan wrote:Any chance Philly would trade give us the right to swap our first round pick for theirs, and Okafor for Bledsoe. Simple. Works. Gives us two decent shots at a top 5 pick.
For Philly, we might even be worse than them this year. So they would give up nothing. If we are better than them, it probably won't be by much. Good grief, there is a reasonable possibility that both picks will be in the top 5.
I don't think they need Bledsoe but I'm sure they'd do that. Philly is projected to be in the playoffs by many and their Vegas over/under total is 42.5 without Bledsoe, tied for 7th in the east. Ours was 28.5 with Bledsoe.
Now Philly has had some tough losses already, but Simmons looks as good as you could possibly expect, so if healthy, they should rack up wins against a lot of those poor eastern teams.
They might not make the playoffs, especially if some of the teams that have looked good, like Orlando, keep playing well, but just going by over/under totals, they would get the 16th pick or so and we'd be tied with 3 teams for the third worst record.

Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 2
Its funny, there was all this talk about "Can Irving be great without Lebron" and a lot of people talking down on him, but it looks like the real question is can Lebron and the Cavs win without Irving.
A loss to the Nets, Magic, and its going to be another loss tonight against the Pelicans.
All that while Irvings Celtics have won 3 straight (Without Hayward) and without help from a bunch of overpaid superfriends.

As CLE keeps losing, the BKLN pick is getting closer to us.

this is true. LeBron can't play PG all season
who knows when Thomas will be healthy
its easy
Bledsoe + maybe Jones Jr for Shumpert, Frye, Zizic and the pick

At first I was thinking about James Jones in the front office and didnt think we could trade front office members.
I'd do that trade in a heartbeat and hope the cavs struggle to make it happen.

Yeah. That trade might be lopsided in their favor. Maybe we should ask for the right to trade EITHER of our two picks for theirs. That way the Suns are pretty much guaranteed the best two of those three picks.

Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 2
I would try and up an offer to Milwaukee to pry Brogdon from them.
Brogdon/Monroe/Tele for Bledsoe/Chandler/3 2nd round picks. We have enough young players and draft picks. Rather give up 2nd rounders and get a known commodity in return while shedding Bled and Chandler. Chandler is done. If Williams wasn't injured still, Chandler would be useless to the team. I get the vet thing, but I think Dudley is enough wise old vet for the team. Len is outplaying Chandler on the reg.

Suns have been trying to get Brogdon. Milwaukee is refusing to deal him. Not sure if the second rounders would do it, but I would be willing to throw in a couple.

That's what I'm saying. Up the offer. I think he'd be perfect with this team and we don't need more unknowns at this point. I might even be willing to offer up a Miami pick swap if that's what it took.

What say you if Bucks countered your Brogdon/Monroe/Tele for Bledsoe/Chandler/3 2nd round picks with? -
Brogdon/Monroe/Tele for Bledsoe/Chandler/PHX '19 (#15 - #30)*
*if not conveyed becomes PHX '20 (#11 - #30) >>> then '21 (#6 - #30) >>> then '22 unprotected
...just starting to think McD is going to have to attach a (decent to good) future pick to get a nice return on Bledsoe at this point

I'd be okay with that, minus the unprotected part. I'd say if not conveyed by '22 it turns into 2 2nds, but I have to think it would convey by then anyway.

Cleveland is playing a game of chicken with that pick. They have let it be known that they will not trade it unless LeBron commits long term. IOW, no championship for you LeBron if you do not commit.
