Re-Drafting: Would you take Isaac again?

Post#1 » by melasdas » Sun Oct 29, 2017 12:20 pm

hey guys,

I've been wondering what would you take if we could make the draft again. Im not a fan of Isaac game, however I think he has shown flashes that make me being optimistic about his future.

Despite of his good performance, I would rather to have Mitchell or Smith. What do you think? I open this thread because this is a question to debate all season along.

Too early to tell. Nothing I've seen from anybody after him (relative to names around our pick) so far has made me want to not take him so.. as of right now.. definitely.

He’s a really good defender already and his offense is basic but he isn’t a detriment out there. As a rookie, it’s very good start and imagine what he’ll be in 3 to 4 years. Look at what AG is doing and Isaac is starting off better than he did.

Yes.

The only guys I definitively liked more than Isaac (Fultz, Ball and Jackson) were already gone. I was pretty close to 50/50 on Tatum, although he looks terrific.

Dennis Smith Jr. is a fine player, but Isaac has the more unique skill set.

It seems like Isaac's FLOOR is elite role player.

Not to pile on DSJ, but his draft scouting report has been pretty spot here in the first 10 days of the season.

-Elite athlete capable of scoring in bunches and racking up a load of FT attempts (13.2 PPG, 16 FTA in 4 games)
-Iffy jumper (.238 3PT, .450 FT)
-Terrible defender (116.6 DTRG, -14.4 NETRTG)

He really reminds me of Derrick Rose, only with T-Rex arms instead of the elite length.

I was between Isaac and DSJ and as of now, I love the pick we made. You can tell that he knows basketball and has basketball instincts. On offense you see a flash here and there if an elite offensive move. To me that suggests that 3 years from now, he will likely be the focal point of our offense. His defense speaks for itself. The kid makes an immediate impact when he's on the floor. I can't wait to watch him grow into a weapon on offense.

I would have liked our front office to work some Magical trade to get both Isaac and Smith on the team.

I say yes, we still take Isaac. I think he demonstrates a high floor while still having really high potential to grow. He has the potential to be the best player in that draft considering his 2 way potential.

I just hope he develop into a 3 offensively so him and AG are compatible. Imagine a 2 through 5 starting lineup of Fournier, Isaac, AG, Vuc with AG defending wings and Isaac a rim protector. Very tantalizing.

I think its a close call between Lauri and DSJ and Isaac.

Having said that, and knowing what we have now (AG and Vuc's improved shot), I'd take DSJ.

Mitchell with 9.5 pts on 11.3 fga (32%/25%), 2.7/2.7 ast/tov, 4.88 PER... what is he doing that would make you want him over Isaac right now?

Smith looks ok... I expected more from him out of the gates with the way people were hyping him.

Good with Isaac for now.

Re-Drafting: Would you take Isaac again?

It's really not even fair to have this topic 10 days into the season for Isaac. We knew on draft night that Isaac is much more raw offensively and physically when compared to the majority of the other guys in the lottery. His role is also smaller when compared to DSJ and Markkannens.

If somebody has already changed their mind about Isaac just based on these 10 days into the season then you never liked him as a prospect in the first place becuase his upside and immense potential was always going to be reached later down the line as he has the chance to grow offensively and put on size. I say we revisit this topic in a year and a half. No point in having it now.

Short term = I would take DSJr. Address our PG needs and have an athletic, fast, scoring PG to distribute the ball to our guys.

Long-term = Isaac. His long-term two-way potential is amongst the best in his class. He is already elite defensively. Once his offense comes around, he could be the best player in the class.

will we see this thread every time another rookie has a big game, regardless of their season stats?

Repeating myself, but Isaac is playing a lot like AK47 did when he first came into the league. Can't overstate the impact his length has. Don't need to run any offensive plays for him. Let him play elite defense, play within the offense, get put-backs, start breaks off his steals/blocks and let the kid run. Can actually dribble the ball and is really freakin' agile for being 7-foot.

He's actually exceeded my expectations so far, and that's without his jumper not falling like it was in Summer League or preseason.

And it's WAY too early to talk re-draft.

Lol probably, just wait till DSJ has a 30 point or better game. All hell may break loose on this board.

Issac looks the correct long term pick. Skilled, agile, extremely long and athletic, good head on his shoulders.

DSJ for me. I think he’s similar to Isaac as a prospect but would fit this team better. Just my .02. I like Isaac much more now than when we drafted him and agree he’s more unique. Especially given how deep point guard is.
