Why any Canadian would want to be a fan of the anti-Canadian Raptors is a mystery.

The only thing people should ask the New Brunswick Moose is why it took so long.

There are four things that real Canadians hate, the PM, the Premier of Ontario, the Toronto Raptors, and the Ottawa RedBlacks name.

What is a RedBlack? Is there a BlackRed? Isn't that just maroon or burgandy?

The Raptors were fun, for children, when they had their Mighty Mouse. The Raptors were fun, for those who get their basketball knowledge from shoe and beverage commercials, when Vince Carter was there and actually trying. Since then, no fun.

It won't be too long before many real Canadians are refugees and fleeing, and this is the basketball equivalency.

The coaching, nonexistent during their meaningless history. The management, Zeke was good compared to some others. The media tells you to celebrate the achievements of the current one in charge, but they have none. Don't be fooled by the headlines, "Raptors GM is Genius as They Sign DeMarre Carroll" or "Raptors GM is Genius as he Gives Away a First Round Pick to Remove DeMarre Carroll and his Contract".

The players, except Eric Montross and Big Nasty and Sullinger and one game of Acie Earl, nothing fun or inspirational. Their team is entirely Abdul Nader-types.

Ibaka, Lowry and DeRozan are getting C$100,000,000 this season and all play ugly-ball. Zan Tabak sold more tickets to games than them.

The only thing worse than the Raptors are their commentators.

The worst thing to try is to go to a Raptors game, at the ScottyBank Arena, formerly Le Air Canada Centre. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

It's all relative, man. I'm a Patriots/Celtics/Sox/Bruins fan and I've been spoiled all my life with an intelligent fan base and winning teams, but I'm mainly talking about the former.

Have you actually read the Raptors forum? It's unbearable and their fans are like that in real life as well. We can't even begin to put ourselves in this guys' position. I'm not going to judge him personally.

It's important to have a good culture from the owner to the fans, otherwise you see **** like this happen.

Percentage wise, the Raptors forum has no more idiotic, over the top fans than the Celtics forum does. They just have more fans than any other forum here. We have crap here that is equally as dumb. There is just less of it to be seen because there are less people. Percentage wise, it is the same.

And it still isn't a good reason to switch the team you root for. Just stay away from other moronic fans. I've lived it here in Orlando. Most got fed up and turned rooting for the team into some sort of odd joke. The real fans here just stayed away from the idiots and did their stuff separately. They didn't bail on the team. And they had a lot more reason than the Raptors fans do to dump the team.

Mate, its more than just the fans, alot more.

That was just the straw, for me.

ownership is cheap and is more interested in turning a profit than anything else, tv crews are horrible, on floor product is boring, no youth to be excited about, team is capped out, team has peaked, and are looking down the barrell of another long term rebuild. 15 years of watching the brutality has sent me looking elsewhere continually for better basketball to take away the sting of it. My closest friends are celts fans, and found myself celbrating their successes more and more.

It was a natural change, not a forced one.

Sometimes people fall out of love.....

I'm with you Moose. I wouldn't spend so much energy following a crap organization. It's not worthy of my time.

Not quite. He’s got a thread to make on his old board first! And he should go at it alone.

Rare occasion I go against mang. I don't like it. If he chooses not to, then what? We collectively shun him? This ain't a club. Folks can post wherever they like.

We've had defectors before, arriving and departing. And, we will again. If he acts like an upstanding member of the community, that's good enough for me.

Well, that's my piece. I just know that if y'all told me I had to jump through some hoop before you could "respect" my fanhood, I'd tell you where you could leave it. That's pretty unnecessarily personal to me.

As a long time (like 12 year) lurker, I say let him in. He makes the thread officially denouncing the Raptors and says he's prepared to commit (like putting a ring on it level commitment), he's in.

Being a Celtics fan is different than any other fandom, we all know it, once someone's ready to swim the Charles River, let them, and welcome them at the end!!! They've seen the light and Hallelujah!!!!! We all know the truth anyway: once you've dipped into the River Charles and become a Celtics fan there is no going back, the world will ever be greener. We know we have the greatest franchise in the history of team sports, once in he will never leave!

And BTW, I'm calling dibs on this now: swimming the Charles is the rite of passage for changing allegiances and becoming a Celtics fan, just like swimming the Tiber when one enters the Catholic Church for those in the know. It's the most serious commitment one can make this side of eternity: the sacred rite of passage into the realm of Celtic Fandom.

Also, like... don't go on another board with an objective like that. You're going to piss someone off and maybe get banned.

I may not accept you as a Celtics fan, but rather a casual NBA fan. But either way I'd never want someone to get banned from RealGM. Life would suck a lot more without this board.

And the Raptor fans are cool, now if it were NY... :naaa:

I'm bullish on the Cs for the first time in 8 years. So much so, I think they could win the title sans Heyward. GS, CLE, and SA just aren't that good this season, IMO.

I was a lifelong Knicks fan until a few years back. I just couldn't continue to root for an organization that I thought was rotten and actually had disdain for their own fans. The owner is a pos of the highest order and their moves reflected that. I believe in the concept of voting with your "pocketbook" so to speak, so I couldn't continue to support them. I've lived in Boston for most of my adult life and now think of myself as a Celtics' fan. For anyone who would say to me that they didn't respect my fandom, my only response would be to get a life, lol. As someone else said, we are following grown men playing a game. If someone wants to claim that they are a "better fan" of a sports team than me, I will just chuckle and move on.

Of course it isn't a war. To even make it a comparison like that is stupid. But to switch the team you like just because you are bored with them is stupid. At least you can respect that. But switching teams is pathetic.

I switched from Chicago to Toronto back once MJ retired too.

I know fans that have switched from Seatle to a different team, and fromn the Grizzlies to another team.

I am a fan of the sport though, and am a fan of well run organizations and fan of teams that play a beautiful game. Always liked SAS, always liked Boston. I dont think that makes me a bad fan by any stretch. Just one who can appreciate what I like.

I like hamburgers, if my favorite burger joint stopped surving them, I wouldnt continue to go there...I would follow the burgers...

But being served crappy burgers, for years, and having other restaurant patrons throw fries at me for stating that the burgers need improvement is too much.

I think Im getting hungry......

The fans who did that generally did so because their team ceased to exist. That is a perfectly acceptable reason to switch teams. Those who switch from the Clippers because the owner was a vile scumbag had a perfect acceptable reason too.

The Blazers fans who gave up when the team was in the Jail Blazers era, they had a reason too.

But you are down on the team because they play a boring style. Don't you think some Celtics fans got down on the team in the dark years? Sure they did. It was really ugly for a long time. But no one bailed and said "You know what? I'm just gonna be a Spurs fan because they are good and play a fun style."

If you came and said "I'm a Raptors fan, but I'm rooting for the Celtics because I like their guys and their style and I'm tired of the Raps right now." that would have been fine. But to say you are a fan of the Celtics now? Not gonna fly with me. You can root for them, but you'll never really be a fan. Being a fan means sticking through the down times and then sharing in the joy during the good ones.

Well, as a European(I guess), I have a different point of view, I was not introduced to Bball nor the Celtics from anyone, I started to watch Italian Leauge highlights when I was 9(no Games trasmitted anywhere in Italy) and NBA games overnight (when I was 10) when anyone was sleeping and fell in love with the game, started playing it and watched games with more expertise, then there was this team, much closer to my mentality tan anuone else and I embraced it, I loved it with all my heart, not really a fan, just a passionate lover, then I dig out on history and phylosophy sorrounding the team and I was even more convinced I loved the right team. I think in USA is much more difficult to go trough that process because almost anyone has a team at his birth so you have to be really open minded to do that. I won't count out the fact that this man has gone trough a similar process I had so I'll give him my suppport until proved otherwise, it happens, also in life, that you are with a girl and always think or speak about another girl, then you light up and thik:"Wait, maybe is the other girl I'm in love with". And this thought erodes you day in and day out until you do forget the other girl or stay with your same girl and live a life of regrets or you have the courage to leave your girl and risk it all to conquer the girl you've fell in love with. Even if we try to deny that the Fans, the History of the team are equally as important than the team itself, are part of the team, I sincerely watch a lot more suspiciously to player's fans or ring chasing bandwagoners, he hasn't pick us because he followed Kyrie or because we are a surefire to the championship, he allegedly choose us because he has something running deep inside him that tells him we are his team, his soulmate, he may be wrong but I'm open to listen and welcome him in our brotherhood.
