GT: Spurs vs. Celtics

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Oct 30, 2017 1:34 pm

When: Oct 30th, 2017
Where: TD Garden, Boston MA

We're a little bit of slide after a poor showing in Orlando and a rough one yesterday. We need a bounce back win tonight, but it won't be an easy one.

The Celtics have won 4 straight after losing their first two games and they seem to be rounding into form. Irving still doesn't look completely comfortable but he has been dangerous and will be once again tonight. Containing him is going to be the key to this one, Murray needs to be all over him.

Go Spurs!!

Excellent actually. He's given us a nice scoring punch off the bench and he's been super efficient as well.

Definitely a disappointing loss. We were right there for the first half, a few silly mistakes cost us but Boston came out strong in the 3rd and we just couldn't keep up. Fatigue might of been a factor but we lost this game for multiple reasons.

Things I liked:

Brandon Paul - He was basically the lone bright spot of this one. He's growing on me quickly actually. Not a flashy player by any means but he's smart with the ball and knows his limitations. Plays hard on the defensive end and just doesn't make mistakes.

Forbes - He was huge for us in the 2nd, really gave us a nice spark. Kinda disappeared after that but it was a good game for him.

... nothing else to like about this game really.

Dislikes:

Team defense - It was awful, Kyrie and Horford lit us up off of P&R's. We couldn't even handle basic switches. Just pathetic really.

Murray - Not a good showing on either end for him. Kyrie carved him up and it got to him. He started forcing things and it got ugly.

LMA - Started off hot from the field then the Celtics started shading him and basically took him out of the game. He was way to slow making decisions when that 2nd defender came at him hard and that killed our offense. He was also terrible around the rim on the other end and he let Horford and others slip by him far too easily.

Overall just a disappointing effort but we've got a nice little homestand coming up to get things in order. Need to up the intensity level and work on our secondary plays. When our first option goes bust we have not been good at making something happen. Everyone seems to just come to a standstill and go into attack one on one mode which just doesn't work for anyone on this team aside from Kawhi (who is out) and maybe Manu or Rudy.

Also props to the Celtics coaching and scouting staff.

They pick up on a lot of our little flaws and I loved the way they played us defensively. They treated Pau and Slo-mo as non shooters and dropped back every time Murray or LMA had the ball.

This is what I've been telling you all about Forbes. This is his game in a nutshell and the biggest reason why he will be no more than a small bit player in this league if that. He just disappears too much and if he's not hitting shots he does absolutely nothing else to justify being on the floor.

I didn't get to watch this game but I also really like what Ive seen from Paul soo far. He has a long way to go but as much as Pop is riding him, that shows me that he really likes the kid and thinks he can be something.

We have about a dozen or so regulars and semi-regulars. Plus a couple of haters from Australia I think. Doesn't help playing on a Monday night in October either....

murray has no idea how to switch, and when he does actually switch correctly on that one in 1 million occasion, he has absolutely zero urgency. it is infuriating to watch.

His biggest issue is that he's trash off the dribble. He can get by guys but can't do anything around the rim. If he's playing with the right personnel he could be decent but I agree he's probably never going to be a big time role player.
