Re: Avery Bradley on The Jump
He's getting at least 20 million a year for a contract for sure. We need to dump Leuer and Boban for a backup center. I'd trade them for Tyson Chandler. Pheonix would probably agree.

Thanks for posting that. I saw on twitter he was going to be on but missed it.
Now I just need a link for SVG interview with Mitch Albom today.

I'm all for it but why would the Suns agree?

They're trying to dump Tyson's contract and he's getting paid like 12.7m next year. Well Leuer and Boban have expiring next year too. 7 and 10 million. Boban wouldn't be bad for them. They've had Leuer before he came to Detroit so why not. Leuer played well for pheonix.

And the year after, fully guaranteed if memory serves too
It's gonna take a first to dump him for a shorter deal IMO but there's some options:
ATL - not exactly stacked at C & PF
CHI - tanking so by the time Jon is a expiring they might be able to swing a big trade using their lesser young guys in a package with Jon as salary filler
MIN - on the upswing and it appears Dieng is in the doghouse
PHO - tanking - see Chicago
POR - seem pretty happy to just make the playoffs and have plenty of "bad" contracts to swap
SAC - tanking - see Chicago
SAS - not tanking and after retaining LMA & Pau won't have cap space any time soon. I think Jon fits the profile for them
TOR - personally think they'll go smaller as the season goes along and JV will be on the block again
WAS - not in a position to add reasonable frontcourt help and have some contracts they could use to bring in Jon

4 years.
Last year was year 1.
This is year 2.
Next year is year 3.
Plus the 4th and final season.

I wouldn't be desperate enough to add a first to dump him yet because he is serviceable but take all the 2nd round picks you want.
My frustration with SVG is the overspending on role players. I truly believe any given offseason you can get a solid backup center for the MLE but "the master of panic" doesn't see it that way. He hadn't even lost Baynes yet and he doubled down on a huge contract for Boban.

Huge contract for Bobo? $7mil is huge?
And again: we made Drummond wait to sign his extension in order to have cap flexibility for ONE off-season!
The Horford Experience!
Once Horford didn't come here we had to use the space otherwise it vanished like a fart in the wind once Dre re-signed!
We overspend on role players because it's Detroit - ain't no one coming here for less!
We've been through all this before and tbh I don't feel like defending decisions that were made 2 years ago with the advantage of hindsight.

$7M is huge for a player that doesn't play at a very replaceable position.
I didn't mind the signing... it's the 3 years

Get in the DeLorean:
1 - if we don't spend the space it vanished
2 - Baynes only has 1 year left and then he's a Free Agent. We expect him to receive offers we can't match
3 - The offer to Bobo has to include enough years or money or both in order to get him out of SA.
4 - At the time people were jizzing about Bobo's potential
5 - We're a playoff team with issues defending bigger players, about to be capped out
I can go on and on if you like
Fact is 2 years ago this team looked to be on the upswing, kind of how it looks right now
Decisions were made in order to continue that upward trajectory, decisions that were not only impacted by Drummond's new deal but Baynes pending free agency AND KCPs.
There's so many factors that played a part in the signing of Jon & Bobo (& Ish) that you really can't go back and say "what if" simply because at the time it was justifiable
It's like saying we should have taken DWade #2 in 2003 - I know of ONE guy on the planet who at the time thought it was the right move - everyone else said Darko or Melo
Captain Hindsight is undefeated and all that

Also, there's more to a signing than on court contributions.
What (if anything) does Bobo bring off the floor?
Is he a real pro? A funny guy? Keeps the locker room sweet? Organises dinners for a group of player's on the road? Plays cards with everyone?
Anyone ever hear or read any stories about what Bobo, Galloway, Ish etc are like off the floor?
To me that kind of stuff is just as valid as what they do on the court, if not more so.
All the little things is what brings a team together.

LMAO - I don't know if he does any of that!
I'm asking if anyone has read or heard what our guys are like off the floor?
I worked with a coach once who had a dude on his team that was **** terrible! A guard that couldn't handle the ball against pressure AT ALL and every team we played KNEW it...eventually the kid got benched (obviously)
For the next 2 years this kid rode the pine, rarely playing, especially in any games that mattered.
So me wanting to develop as a coach asked the obvious question:
Why do you keep this kid on the team when EVERYONE knows he's ****?
There's 4 guys we could bring in tomorrow that could take his spot, that could actually develop given the exposure to the coaching staff, team structure and environment etc
My coach said...and I'll paraphrase:
"Cause when those superstars go to parties he's the kid that makes sure they don't **** everything up!"
See, we had some dudes that were actually good (for their ages, at the time) & they thought they were top shelf - they were little celebrities around the area and a couple of them loved that.
They'd go out drinking, taking pills, willing to **** anything that moved...
And this weak ass PG was part of their circle, their buddy from high school (he used to be top **** himself at 16)....but he was the smart one and never got into drunken brawls or had issues with drugs.
So where I saw no value to this kid my coach saw A LOT of value
There's a lot of stuff that goes in to making a team a team, and while we like to think professionals are actually professionals you never know who's doing what or who's doing who off the floor
Look at Tony Parker & Brent Barry - bit of a weird situation with their now ex-wives, right? Who woulda known!
So there COULD be value in Bobo - we just don't know about it...
