Do You guys think He could be valuable as a bench player for our team?

He could be useful - like a poor man's Greg Monroe. I'd rather go after NY's Kyle O'Quinn. If Noah comes back and plays well, O'Quinn's backup role gets smaller. And he's better than Okafor. Of course, we'd need to off-load one of our centers, and that's probably not realistic.

I'd rather play Smith than Okafor on our 2nd unit. Jah doesn't space the floor enough to be a 4 for us, or defend well enough at the rim (or anywhere else for that matter) to play center for us.

As at least some of you will recall, I've been calling Kyle O'Quinn's name since before the 2012 draft in which he went #49. We had had a second R2 pick that year (#46), but our resident genius threw it away for no reason in the brain-dead Okariza trade.

O'Quinn is having an incredible season so far -- as he did last year, but he's even better this year. He has a $4.25m option for next year, which I imagine he'll decline. We wouldn't be able to re-sign him.

In any case, we have nothing to trade for him.

For that matter, you could say the same about Okafor -- how would we acquire him? Ditto Kevon Looney, whose option GS didn't pick up probably for health reasons. Or so I assume, as he's had very few minutes in 3 years but has always put up good numbers.

In the case of Looney, btw, I might go to the GS GM and make a humanitarian plea! Say, 'look this kid can't play for you, but he might be able to play for us. Give him to us straight up for Chris McCullough, whose salary is identical & whom you also don't have to pay next year. Come on, do this kid a favor!'

Would that work, do you think? I didn't think so....

Offer them the option to switch first rounders for him? They might as well get something for him.

No.

He has no clue of how to help a team win games.

No idea of how to defend. No idea of how to make his skillset work within a team concept.

He's literally the worst C in the entire league. His impact is hugely negative. Could he improve? Yes, but he's got a country mile to go before he even becomes a replacement level player.

Why though? Looney wouldn't play on our team this year and would be gone this summer? I don't see why they didn't pick up his option if they were going to trade him. It's not like a rookie scale expiring contract of an unproven player is worth anything at all really.

I don't get it with the Okafor situation either, doesn't this just kill their value?

The main thing I remember about Okafor is that he totally destroyed Gortat the last time they were matched up. He scored at will.

I don't think it's fair to judge him at this age when he had been playing on a disfunctional team. A good coach will get more out of him. Even if he proves not being capable of being a good defender, there's still a place for a scoring center. Kanter and Vucevic are good examples. He'll catch on somewhere. Brooklyn would be a good spot. He became a bad fit at Philly because they had a much better starting center, and a good backup in Holmes.
