Most of us seem to think it's inevitable that we see Turner and Sabonis in the starting lineup together at some point in the future. If we're playing Sabonis at the 4 to do that, there would be minutes for Okafor at backup center, which is kind of where the defense-challenged post up bruisers of the league have been carving out a spot for themselves the last few years. It would also make sense to pair Okafor with a shooter in the front court, and we have one of those in Leaf.

That might be a nightmare defensively for the second unit, though.

If he was very cheap, I'd consider him.

A rotation player who can score the ball - he has his flaws, but could anchor the second unit for 8-16 minutes a game.

I agree, but reports have his agent working with Philly to find a place where he will play. I just don't see him getting many minutes for us this year if we trade for him. He'd definitively be the 4th big and I could see Nate wanting to use Al sometimes over him just because he basically knows what he will get with Al and can't be certain with Jah.

I do think he fits pretty well alongside Turner and Sabonis though.

We have two centers better than him. Pass.

Let's not forget that for all of the complaints about him, Okafor is a 20/8/2 per-36 for his career, and is still just 21.

Those numbers are being nice. He started for a bad team.

Those are per36 numbers, and it's unlikely he would be able to replicate them playing more minutes. Also, his defense is atrocious. Personality seems to be bad for the locker room as well. No thanks.
The fact that he's not getting any minutes in a second team in a row (and his current teams' main center averages what? 25 minutes every second game?) says a lot. He's China material at best. Maybe there he could get more playtime, improve both his playing skills and personality, and come back to NBA. Maybe.

The trade Thad group wouldn't offer him to Philly? ???

I'd have Thad as more valuable than Jah and I'm not sure Philly would be inclined to add anything to bridge that gap since they have Simmons and Saric at the 4.

I want his offense. But definitely not his defense. He'll get destroyed every now and then. Unless he learns how to shoot 3's and play stretch 4 instead.

Thad is way more valuable than Okafor. You should be trying to trade him for a SF. I’ve been trying to find a way to make a Thad for Justise Winslow trade work.

Then make it Jefferson for Okafor and a SF. I don't know Philly's roster well enough to have a preference but wouldn't expect them to add their starter and maybe not even someone getting serious minutes. we really don't have a real SF behind Bojan so a warm body that deserves to me on an NBA roster would do.

What about if he gets bought out? We have an open roster spot and a little extra cap space right?

If we are keeping Big Al around he might as well mentor all the bigs he can.

how do you think he compares to Ike? Ike got on the box score last night at the end of the Kings game. hit some free throws and a midrange shot and had a big block. he's not particularly tall but is very long. Okafor would compete with Ike for minutes. I'm not ready to give up on Ike so no.
