Yeah, Clay Bennett said he wasn't going to move the Sonics though.

Can it be written into the deal maybe? So they can't move the team for X amount of years?

Would be weirdly entertaining to see Seattle fans who've complained endlessly about having their team stolen and rebranded start rooting for a team they stole and rebranded.

No inside info. It's pretty well known that the front office was split between Chriss and Bender. I'm just assuming Sarver was the one pushing for Chriss.

Bledsoe and the Suns second rounder for Shumpert Frye and the Nets Pick
Suns can buy out both players if need be - or keep Frye

Deal number 2: Chandler for Monroe

Or at the very least, Bledsoe for Shumpert, Frye amd the right to swap our pick for their best pick (probably Nets). If the pick doesn't convey we get a future pick from them (light to no protection).

This gives us more assurance that we get a top 5 pick in the draft if our new winning culture under Triano is legit.

Cavs will still get a great/solid pick this year from us while also getting a star caliber player.

Edit: I might even add Chriss for Calderon/Cavs pick if they want more youth and get rid of the log jam at PG. have to wait till December 14th for that though.

I would be fine giving them the Heat pick - no swapping picks. I want two lottery. But the Heat pick would be of value.

Yes, I too thought of Caldern but like you said, have to wait until Dec 14. I am not sure I want to give up on Chriss yet - but Bender as played better this year.

Not to say I won't give up Chriss but not the Cavs if its Shumpe/Frye for Bledsoe - would need a young player. I would do Okafor

No way, Okafor is garbage. Chriss hasn't been great but his trade value is higher than Okafor. Chriss can at least hit 3's and play in a fast paced system, which everyone is playing these days. Okafor's game is antiquated which is why the 76ers can't find a team willing to trade for him.

I don't think Sarver is bad enough to risk him selling and having them leave Phoenix. As we've seen in the NFL nothing is certain. Luckily the NBA is a little more grounded but I certainly don't want to even imagine a scenario of the suns playing in a different city, even if it means Sarver sticking around.

I don't think the league would allow an owner to move the franchise from Phoenix. Don't all the other owners have to agree on a sale before it's approved by the league? Regardless, even if Sarver wanted to spite the fans, I don't think he'd try selling it to someone that wanted to move the team or purposely not sell to someone that loves the city and state.

I remember a while back there was talk of a group of former Suns players that expressed the desire of purchasing/owning the team. Wouldn't that be amazing? At this point, I'll take just about anyone not named Sarver.

I think it was hard to find a new owner with Sarver when the price was $400K. A bunch of players don't have a combined $2 billion. I don't know how many people in the Phx area even have that kind of money. Obviously you could finance most of the purchase but it's still going to take someone extremely rich. You don't want another Microsoft guy coming along to buy it.

Sure. That would obviously mean there is less chance they will be sold. If someone offers Sarver $2 billion, he puts that into the contract, and then the guy says "no thanks" it might be tough for Sarver to walk away from all that money though.

It was said at the moment that Watson wanted Chriss and McDonough wanted Bender IIRC.

Gambo said that this last draft Sarver wanted Fox badly, that's a sure thing.

Most of those guys are in their 70s. The only guys I could realistically see wanting to buy them, but they'd HAVE to be Suns fans, and most people in Phx probably are not, are Bob Parsons (GODADDY) and Peter Sperling (University of Phoenix).

Actually it looks like the first 8 have over $2 billion so Sperling only has $1.6 billion. You could easily finance half or more of the purchase I would guess though, and he could just be majority owner.

Parsons (from what I recall) is a bit of an oddball though.

I think those two would be the most likely of that list because those are relatively new companies. Not real new, but compared to stuff like Discount Tire, UHaul and Campbell Soup. Univ of Phx isn't new, but I think it's expansion and profit probably went over substantially over the last couple of decades.

I'm not a huge fan, but right now, at least until Seattle gets a team, I don't want to see them sold. You never know how bad a next one might be as well, even if they did sell. At least the team is going through a proper rebuild which was the biggest problem Sarver delayed for a few years after trading Amare and Nash was on his last legs.

This should probably be it's own thread because I'm sure speculation will run for a while.

I mentioned this earlier but will again - Why do we assume Sarver would be more likely to keep the team in Phoenix than a new owner? He's not from here and frankly isn't well liked here I don't see why he would have any loyalty keep the team here. This isn't a Herb Kohl situation with Milwaukee where he was a local guy and former senator with a huge motivation to keep the team in Milwaukee. I think an arena deal does get done at some point regardless of who's the owner and hell it might have a better chance of getting public money if someone more well liked than Sarver is pushing for it and someone with deeper pockets that would contribute more to the building of it.

Plus I really do expect we see the NBA expand in the next few years; that is so much more financially lucrative for owners than moving a team. It's been a long time since the last expansion, 32 is a number that makes sense and if you put the teams in Seattle and Vegas you could even up the conference by getting cities like Memphis and probably New Orleans (maybe Minnesota) in the East. This could also be where it would makes sense to cut the season down a few games.

I'd be done with the NBA if the Suns moved out of Arizona.
I'd buy as much Phoenix Suns merch as I could before it was gone and have my memories.

An expansion draft might be a good way to break up the Warriors. :p

Seattle would probably appreciate the team more than our fan base does!
