John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III

Even by that logic from Paul Pierce, Chris Paul is better in that regard. In the “best point guard” convo, people always talk about the guys that “actually play defense” like Wall and Westbrook who actually are not good defenders. Not being able to play off ball isn’t a good thing. Ontop of that, we literally saw what happens when Wall gets away from his strengths in his matchup against Isaiah Thomas. He didn’t defend at all and got outplayed, so it’s hard for me to put Wall over IT even. If you just go by last season. Lowry/Conley/Kemba all had better seasons than Wall

Chris Paul gets no love for being an elite defender and highly efficient scorer.

Paul
Westbrook
Curry
IT
Lowry
Conley/Wall/Irving/Walker in whatever order

Your rankings make no sense to me- (we not talking about this year Wall ...lets say small sample size).

Chris Paul gets no love cause he has had talent around him and couldn’t move his team in the playoffs. Honestly we all love Paul..but he isnt as good as John as of LAST year (This years Wall is better than Paul because is Paul hurt). Paul isnt loved by any of his teammates- he is apparently not a good team leader. I also think age and size caught up with Paul last year.

Westbrook and Curry are on a different level- no question-

IT is the worse defensive player in the NBA....period. That invalidates him unless you build a team that protects you against him as a defensive liability. Plus i want you to think about the fact that Boston had to THROW some spice in just to get Kyrie from Cleveland because he honestly IT “gets 30 but gives up 30”...which matters. IT is the point guard version of Nique - John is better

Lowry...LOL. You do know that Lowry got no serious offers in free agency right? You think all of the GMs wouldn’t have taken Wall last year over Lowry. Honestly Wall had a bad game 7 last year. Lowry is historically bad in the playoffs- Kyle doesnt do well with that playoff pressure. Plus as a professional athlete he doesnt take conditioning seriously- thats a leadership issue-

It’s a interesting debate and John hasn’t played well enough to be a cut above anyone...but Last YEAR It was Westbrook, Curry then Wall at the point. Harden is a 2 guard...and Harden was the best 2, followed by Klay and possibly followed by CJ/Beal-

respect that...i know he worked on his game in the off season. It wasn’t his shot that killed us in the suns game...it was the weird turn overs that just added up. Weird in the sense that it was the wrong pass to the wrong man at the wrong time and it appeared that since the wiz were winning and the suns were bad, it wouldn’t cost them the game...till it did. Glad he is listening and working on his game all day evr day.

Wonder if he's tired. Worked his ass off all summer and his body is better than ever. Haven't seen him start this slow since his sophmore year.

If he's tired after seven games, we're in trouble. He took care of his body apparently over the summer but is he taking care of it now? Is he partying too much and not getting enough sleep? He's 27 and the leader of this team but maybe it's time to settle down. He's not 22 anymore. I really don't care what he does in his personal life as long as he takes care of business on the court. Other than one game, he's been dreadful for six of the seven games.

I'm thinking he worked out TOO much - he does look a little bulkier this year. Maybe it'll take him some time to get used to playing with the extra muscle? Idk.

We've seen time and time again that John has always been self-aware. That ability to be introspective and self-correct is why he's John Wall and not an Eric Bledsoe or Dennis Schroder in this league.

I'm sure he knows where he's been going wrong - I remember last year he said he was "playing like ****" and then went on to win Eastern Conference Player of the Month. It's baffling to me that people won't even give the guy 10 games to self-correct, everyone wants to throw him in the bushes already.

They moved the start date up three weeks so the offseason was a lot shorter this year. Normally they would have just had opening night a few days ago, instead we're 6-7 games deep already. I think that's affecting a lot of guys around the league who are starting slow. By all reports John killed it in his workouts this offseason but he didn't have enough time to give his legs a rest and ease into training camp & the start of the season. My guess is that within ~10 games or so he'll be back to normal "incredible John Wall" level and a lot of posters will be walking back their criticism

Fax. I can't even imagine the meltdowns last year on this board when we started poorly. People act like John Wall completely changed his game and is trying to emulate Steph Curry, or something he's not this year. He's just trying to make a play for his team. He might be pressing that issue too much right now, but that'll definitely self correct. He's never been a selfish player with his head up his ass.

I love John Wall, the player(at least when he’s playing great), but I’m really starting to dislike John Wall, the person. I feel some of his personality has rubbed off on Beal, too.
