Game Thread: Hawks v Rockets

The Houston Rockets take a seven-game losing streak against the Atlanta Hawks going into Friday night's game, including four losses in a row at Philips Arena.

The Hawks' team that the Rockets will face has little resemblance, though, to the one that has had the upper hand during that streak.

Atlanta, in a major rebuild after a 60-win season just three years ago, has lost seven straight games following an opening victory at the Dallas Mavericks and is lacking the offensive weapons to keep up with the free-firing Rockets.

The Hawks don't have an outside shooter anymore like Kyle Korver, either.

The best they have to offer is young guard Dennis Schroder, which should at least make for an interesting matchup with Harden.

Schroder, who scored 25 points in the 119-109 loss at the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, is averaging 22.7 points and 6.7 assists to Harden's 26.6 points and 9.1 assists.

What does Atlanta not do well? Defend the 3.
What does Houston like to do? Shoot a maba-ton of 3s?
Yep, I smell an upset too.

•The Rockets have a seven-game losing streak against the Hawks, the longest in the series.
•The Rockets have just five wins in Atlanta in the previous 20 seasons.
•Eric Gordon, averaging 23.9 points per game, has surpassed last season's average of 16.2 points in every game this season.
•Clint Capela's run of three-consecutive double-doubles is the longest of his career. He is averaging 13.3 points and 11.4 rebounds while leading the NBA in shooting percentage, 70.4 percent.

Eric Gordon thriving under D'Antoni. I wonder if they are second guessing the CP3 acquisition. That cap space could have been used at a position of greater need.

I can't wait to see Capela v Collins. Clint playing as an uber-athletic, under-sized Center is what J Collins projects to be at the position.

Hawks need another big man. The Hawks have another big man. Am I serious? Yep, I am.

I notice, in the report, that Miles Plumlee was now working out. Is he any good? Someone apparently thought so.
He has a long term contract, playing him $12,500,000.00 this season.

Somebody was high when he got that deal. Most thought it was the GM. Turns out it was the player. :-? Here all week, folks.

Yup. I'm not sure I think it was a couple of years ago for maybe a stretch of 2-3 months but Miles was playing out of his mind...just swatting shots like crazy...I'm guessing it was a contract year.

I think the 3rd Plumlee brother is kinda screwed..the first two haven't progressed much since college...although Mason loves working on his handles...I think he's still dribbling at Philips from last week....

You know I love our ball movement and all but there was a point in that game where all I was seeing was Mason dribble and be the point guard and Belinelli was shooting from nearby Alabama.....all that was missing was Ersan's flops....lol...

Mason has the dribbling thing
Belinelli shoots from the parking lot
Ersan takes charges all game

Kg, if you were in the NBA, what would be your thing? Please be safe for work...:-| (crossing fingers).

I think mine would be either throwing chalk in the air...(I know..kg Lebron others done it to death) or I'd be the illegal screen setter...lol...ala Bogut/Draymond/anyone that plays with curry or Lebron..

But if I'm setting an illegal pick...ur gonna feel it in ur softer areas...planting a muscle memory pain for the next time.

We have Houston's pick. I really want to beat Houston because of that fact.

:D

It could happen tonight. Shots could begin to fall. We hope so. BUT, Hawks could sleepwalk right into
another defeat. Note: Rockets shoot a lot of threes. We don't defend these.

Can all our bench players make the difference? Maybe they can keep the starters away from sleepwalk.

For a team that preaches defense above all else we sure did give up 36 in the first quarter.

:D

Nothing wrong with the Hawks offense. They do have 51 points @ halftime.

Rockets shooting 50% from downtown, 22 - 11 and have a SLIGHT lead! -

Bazemore looks good on the stat sheet with 18 but man, when you really watch him you see how bad he is. He just compounds his mistakes by continuing to try to do too much over and over again. Those are the time periods when the opponent makes their run.
