Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
Really think his absence cost us that SAS game as we just had no answer for Rudy Gay.
It sucks because this is a pretty deep team, but you take two starters and two backup PG's off and it just isn't anymore....
Tonight we now have no one to throw at Butler/Wiggins. Get well MKG

No MKG against the Knicks. Probably makes me a bad person, but this is beginning to annoy me

Butler and Wiggins. Ya we really really needed MKG last night. Really wish we knew a little more other than "personal reasons"

I must be a bad person too.

Yeah, it's frustrating for sure. We don't look like a playoff team without him that's for sure.
And I freaking loathe Boston. We really need him on Jaylen

We’re missing our two starting wings. It’s definitely hurting our depth. And the fact that MKG’s reasoning for missing games isn’t because of physical injury with little to no information it’s just annoying.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
I'm more concerned with the team dynamic. MKG has a decision to make. He can't just decide to play for a few games and then take a few games off because he doesn't feel like playing. It sets a very bad precedent to the rest of the team.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

He probably won't recover from this this season. He is in some deep depression.

At some point a team and an organization have to make decisions. If the kid is mentally ill then resolve to play this season without him, get him help, and see what comes this offseason. Either way, short of bouncing back soon and putting up really impactful production, he may be another lost opportunity high draft pick that flopped.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

At this point he is a flop. Look I've long defended MKG but Brad Beal, Waiters, Lillard, Barnes, Drummond, hell even Ross are better players than him, all players we could sorely use right now, all drafted immediately after. Whats scary is that the only other player we considered was Thomas Robinson. At least Cho stopped dicking around with his draft model and finally went BPA and took Monk.

I think the team has to dock his pay for all games he has missed at this point. This behavior has directly cost this team/ corporation wins which equals millions and millions if it causes them to miss the playoffs. Plus he is screwing over his teammates. How can they trust him going forward?
Literally everybody has personal tragedies to overcome and he has had plenty of time to work this out. His Grandma? I would feel differently if it was his 12 year old son or something. Old people have lived their lives, it's not a tragic situation to have your life end if your over 60, it's inevitable. That is a bit callous but I don't know of any other job that would give you a month off work with seemingly no consequences in a similar situation. Heck, in most other media markets this would be front page of the sports section every day til something got done.

Glad we've got a bunch of experts on the MKG situation that know that the death of his grandmother shouldn't affect him enough to miss games.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
I think some of y'all are being too harsh, the loss of a loved one can put even the strongest people into a spiral of extreme depression and substance abuse, wreck their marriage, or make them lose their job, it isn't unheard of at all. I've seen it in real life, people who were solid like a rock, remove that support pillar you didn't know they relied on emotionally so heavily...suddenly they're mentally ruined.
I do agree with the idea that this has gotta be an either/or thing for MKG. The team should gently but persistently get the message across to him that he needs to get serious help (if he hasn't already) to remedy the pain. And he needs to decide if that process will involve no basketball, or will include basketball as a therapeutic escape. I don't think him jumping in and out of games with us is good for his emotional state to be honest, what he needs most right now is a steady schedule and support system if he's seriously this distraught. Whether that means the schedule of the NBA season or a personal schedule while he's on sabbatical, either way would be better than this for all parties imo

I know your sig is MKG based and it sucks to see one of your favorites hurting (himself and the team). That's a shame.
But- If it was Dwight or Frank taking a month off in season after his Grandmother passed would you feel the same way?
I like the guy and I had no problem with him taking a couple of weeks at the beginning of the year off to get his head on straight. It's weeks later and still not contributing to your team and job that is concerning all around. I know that wouldn't fly at most folks jobs.
If LeBron was doing this it would literally lead off SportsCenter every night.

Literally every corporation in the country has programs for mental illness, disability, sick leave, drug abuse, etc... This isn't Malaysia

I am familiar with FMLA, thanks. If he is suffering from mental illness and taking a FMLA LOA that's a different issue then taking a month off for a death in the family.
Glad he is coming back this week and I hope he has got the help he apparently needed to rejoin the team. Like I said, I like MKG and hope he comes back in a healthy frame of mind.

Awesome news. Hopefully there aren't any Boston fans that give him any sht. I was looking at Twitter and as bad as some people on this board think some of us are, you'd lose your sht over some of the nasty tweets people have been sending to MKG.
