Would need more "sweetener" from LA still, but it has my interest

I understand the thinking, but would pass. Deng's contract is too ugly

Harris 17M/Tolliver 3M/Ellenson 2M = 22M
Drummond 21M/Moreland 1M = 22M

This post says all you need to say about why we shouldn't acquire Deng and why moving Jon is important

Of those guys above AB, SJ, Tobias & Ish all are up for new deals before Deng (or Jon) expires yet as currently constructed we're over the cap!

When you put AB in at $20 mil, Tobias as the same, SJ at $10 mil & Ish the same you're adding another $24 mil to our cap

And the only significant saving would be Bobo expiring!

Our payroll situation all hinges on Gores paying the tax...anyone confident he will?

As stated I'm willing to sacrifice the 2018 first rounder in order to clear Jon off the books - & not just because of his play thus far.

We have some serious decisions coming up with more important players and sometimes you just gotta let someone go in order to protect the greater good.

He's done. Deng has nothing left in the tank. He should embrace his role as a vet/locker room presence now.

for

Deng / Clarkson / LAL unprotected 2020 1st round pick (or 2021 if the 2020 is tied up)

Lakers move both of their big contracts, save $5 mil immediately in the deal and break them into smaller pieces they can potentially move or pay teams to take.

Our cap situation is screwed anyway until 2020, which this doesn't make worse, but rolling the dice that the Lakers are still bad (or even if they get Lebron, who knows what happens) is worth it considering our cap is locked anyway. Clarkson is 25 and shooting 39% from 3 this year, so while he's not exactly a pure PG like Ish, hopefully pairing him with Galloway or Kennard gets close enough to PG play out of the second unit while adding another guy who can shoot.

In the summer of 2020 we would have Reggie / Deng / Clarkson / Galloway coming off the books representing $50 mil in expiring money, with Dre as an expiring the next year and Kennard with 1 more year on his rookie deal, allowing almost any direction the franchise wants to go at that time.

thats one of the most one-sided deals ive ever seen.

I don't think Deng is done. He could be a decent bench player and this lengthy exile has probably gotten his head in a much better position to do that. However, that contract is horrible. No way anybody gives up expirings for that unless multiple young players and/or picks are attached.

Who is going to take on an extra 36M over the next two seasons for expirings? Are the Lakers going to attack Ingram and a first rounder?

Maybe they're better off just JSmoove'ing him and taking a $7.3M hit over the next five seasons.

D'Lo who many were pretty low on was taken on by the Nets while absorbing Mozgov's horrendous contract

D'Angelo was still highly regarded around the league for everything but his snitching. Ingram is held in even higher regard. If they're willing to move Ingram, they can dump anyone else they want.

Don't think that's the plan, though.
