One big area of difference: Brooks always resisted lineup data and advanced metrics to help aid decisions. Donovan has been one of the most forward-thinkers in college basketball in using advanced stats. The Thunder are a very data driven front office. That was always a disconnect with Brooks, and something Donovan will likely embrace.

From a Royce article. Gave me a good laugh.

Katz brought up the other day how much Donovan has the proprietary Synergy numbers at his fingertips—multiple people have said this. He's obviously reading the data. How much he uses it I don't know, but I DO know that the Synergy numbers sometimes tell a different story than what we have available to us (that's based on having some acquaintances who have a subscription to the public service). I wouldn't laugh too hard

The Thunder were one of the first six teams to embrace player tracking. Still try to stay ahead of the curve on analytics (although they have churned through some analytics guys, probably due to underpayment).

Oh I'm still laughing. He can know the numbers, but he obviously has no idea what to do with them. The numbers would have told him that Semaj Christon should never see the floor. The numbers would have told him that we needed Taj Gibson for more than 20 minutes a game to beat Houston. The numbers would have also told him that Patterson needs to be out there way more.

And finally: For a franchise that acts like it's very into data, we sure have been going after players who are off the charts bad in advanced stats. For years you could count on Presti to go after the worst guys in RPM.

Donovan can be a smart guy; I don't know him personally. But what dies it matter if that never translates onto the court?

I still hate everything about it, and now I can include the outcome in my list of complaints.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
