Drummond already ties shaq in career 20 rebound games

Post#1 » by MotownMadness » Thu Nov 9, 2017 5:10 pm

After Drummond’s 21-rebound performance against the Indiana Pacers, he now has 35 career games with 20 or more rebounds. And according to Reddit user The_Jims, that now puts him in a tie with another Hall-of-Famer, the great Shaquille O’Neal, for 11th in NBA history in career 20-rebound games.

That certainly is quite an achievement for Drummond, who is only 24 years old and has been in the league for just five-plus seasons. To have as many 20-rebound games during that short span of time as Shaq did during his storied 19-year career is hard to fathom.

Impressive stuff

Wow, he probably won't be able to catch Russell/Chamberlain, but if he's becomes top 3-5 rebounder, that's a hell of an accomplishment. And if he's keep his FT% like this, the max contract was well worth it!

Poster on the GB did figure out this Reddit poster wasn't counting Shaqs playoff numbers though which puts him still 20 games ahead.

kevin willis has 37, ben wallace has 42, dennis rodman has like 160 or something like that, hakeem has 47, mutombo has 50 something, deandre jordan has 40, dwight howard has 75, garnett has 36, marcus camby has 42, charles barkley has 55.

that's all i could find *note that this is 1986 onwards since that's all that is in bball-ref's databse.

if drummond averages 7 a year which is more or less what he's done then he could reach anyone on the list minus rodman. howard might be tough since he's still playing.

it's pretty normal for historical purposes to keep regular season and playoff games separate.

so yeah, drummond is good at rebounding.

And those guys got a lot of extra playoff games in there as well where we are just looking at regular season for Dre which is more impressive to think about.

Hopefully he starts racking up some 20 rebound playoff games too!

I like when people use the argument that he he just gets them cause that's all he cares about or stealing them from his teammates. One poster said that to me so I asked him then why does he also always lead in ORB percentages?

To be fair to whoever that poster was, he does “steal” boards from teammates. He sometimes goes out of his way to do it and sometimes results in out of bounds when the other guy clearly had it. It gets to me at times, but it mostly doesn’t hurt when he does do it

He definitely does but that doesn't hold up in a argument when trying to degrade his rebounding talents when he leads the league in both offensive and defensive rebounding percentages.

Yeah I'd rather him hustle for every possible rebound than assume someone else has it. Feel like that would be worth it more times than not

Dre is a HOF lock in his fifth season? What are you smoking? HOF after five seasons means MVP's, championships, and tragically dying in a plane crash.

Dre should secure having his jersery retired in Detroit one day by the end of his current contract here. Of course it will help his cause if he can help Detroit win some playoff series in Detroit... something Grant Hill was never able to do and part of the reason he will never have his jersey retired in Detroit.
Career Rebounds as a Piston
1. Bill Laimbeer 9430
2. Bob Lainer 8063
3. Ben Wallace 7264
4. Dennis Rodman 6299
6. Andre Drummond 5133
