Figured I would take the liberty to start and update a team stats and ranking for the new season. Help us see where we rank throughout the season to help us get a idea of what our identity is throughout the year.

So far it's looking like a solid defensive team especially protecting the paint. Average offensively but taking good shots and not turning the ball over.

We're near the best in the league when it comes to taking care of the ball.

I am compelled to mock and rebuke this thread. It has positive elements, and so must be seen as farcical! ;-)

Yes, they are showing progress. (Please don't kill me!)

Not dead last in FT% is nice. Way to go, Dre.

Update on this?
Maybe add in opponent turnovers, since we are 3rd in that category.

Yeah I will here in a bit. Figure I would do it every 5 games or so but yeah any other stats you can think of let me know and we will just keep updating.

Not a team stats and this alone doesn't say the whole story but it's an important individual stats. Our Plus/Minus so far (bottom 4/top 4). I ignored Boban, since he played so few minutes (13 total), but he is our best with +8.

Reggie Bullock - 2.8
Jon Leuer - 4.4
Luke Kennard - 6.0
Henry Ellenson - 6.1

Andre Drummond + 6.9
Anthony Tolliver + 3.9
Reggie Jackson + 3.6
Langston Galloway + 2.6

The funny thing about the +/- is that Embiid thrashed Whiteside because of his +/- last season (iirc), and he thrash talked Dre about his defense, guess what? Drummond's +/- is a lot higher than Embiid :)

A good stat to track might be schedule adjusted net rating, which seems to be the best overall measure of “how well has team played”. The Pistons are currently 6th at 5.20 behind Golden State, Boston, Houston, Toronto and Memphis.

DRTG 102.0 (9th)
OPPG 100.8 (8th)

Very nice, getting it done on both ends of the floor.

FTA 18.1 (28th)
2nd in the East with no help from the refs.

Blks 2.9 (30th)
8-)

3pt% 36.7 (11th)
Never thought i'd see this, we've been dreadful in this category for years.

These standout to me the most as big reasons why we've been successful:
FGA 87.8 (2nd)
TOs 14.3 (3rd best)
Stls 9.1 (3rd)
Opp pts off TOs 14.2 (4th)
Opp 2nd chance pts 8.9 (2nd)

Opp TOs 17.2 (3rd)

Averaging about +3 in turnover differential (in our favor) is huuuuuge.

The entire league has been trending down in blocks for years too so not worried about that stat.

FTA is a issue though - when shots aren't dropping it's always good to know you can get points at the line

Gotta get respect from the officials first though

We protect the ball and generate turnovers. Moving up towards middle of the pack in 3pt shooting is also huge for us, as it was a major obstical last season.

Agree the FTA are a little troubling, but that may go up as Dre and Reggie get more comfortable.

Basically we dont turn the ball over often but even when we do we don't allow it to convert to buckets. That's just a great sign of maturity and chemistry.

Exactly. It's ludicrous that Stan still has a job with an 8-3 record and minimal play from the last two top draft picks. You don't draft someone in the first round and not have them average 32 minutes a game by AT LEAST their second year.

It is a valid criticism (and others here have already made it) that SVG cares the most about defense, and his last two #1 picks are not good defenders. Sure, you can teach things, but there's no way Coach SVG is going to play President SVG's draft picks if they are gonna get abused on defense. Kinda odd.

Kennard and Ellenson need more time. They don't need to be good defenders (because that's never going to happen), but they can't be awful.
