Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
Who is going to be this team's consistent second scorer to take pressure off Kemba?
with Batum returning to the starting lineup does Lamb have the chops to be that guy?

He got the chops. On a points per minute basis he’s been our 2nd best scorer among rotation players the past 3 seasons excluding the year we had Big Al in which he was 3rd.
The question is will Clifford give him the minutes.

Monk doesn't need any minutes right now, let alone any of Lambs minutes.

This is exactly why I wanted Lamb moved to the bench unit. He's a guy who can get his own offense. As is Kemba... we really need to stagger their minutes so that one of them is in the game at all times.
Frank looks a lot more effective when there is a scorer/penetrator on the court.

I hope Lamb isn’t out for long. Bonnell said that Clifford don’t think Lamb’s hamstring injury is too bad.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
Lamb has impressed the heck out of me this year. He still has his rough patches, and I'm not always happy with him leaving his man on defense, but he has really taken his game up a notch. If he keeps this up, and perhaps builds on it, he can be a starter-level player in this league and his contract is one of the better bargains on the team.
Being on the second unit doesn't seem to have effect his mentality, which is great to see. I hope he keeps it up all year. I know he'll never win because we're barely noticed by the league, but right now he's my surprise Most Improved Player for 2017.

We need him back ASAP. Our offense is going to fall off a cliff(ord) without him

Lamb is listed as probable for Monday’s game against Minny and considered day-to-day. I’m happy his hamstring injury isn’t serious. I was hoping the season that he’s having don’t get interrupted by a injury that take him out for weeks to months.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
I was pleased and surprised to see Lamb in at the end of the game and jumping for a breakaway slam. He was heavily bandaged, but hamstring injuries can render a player ineffective and inactive for weeks and even months. They are very hard to predict. The training staff was right to be cautious in pre-season.

Especially since Lamb has had trouble with his hamstrings every season he's been here. He's missed quite a few games with them over the last few years.

Are we going to be able to afford to resign him?

That summer is going to be so interesting. Kemba, MKG, Howard, Lamb, Frank, Marvin all expire or have Player Options (MKG obviously opts out for more $$$, Marvin could go either way, I think he opts out for his last long term contract and his game should age well).
I think it's a foregone conclusion that Howard and/or Marvin moves on given their ages. As of now, the only players on the books for 2019-20 (if Marvin and MKG opt out) are Nic, Cody, and the rookie contracts of Monk and Bacon. Plumlee's hilarious contract would've been in there too if he hadn't traded him
My vision for 2019-20 if we don't drastically change it up with big trades-
Cody (14M)/[center we drafted in 2018 or 2019] (~3M)
MKG (new contract of ~16M?) /Frank (new contract of ~8M? if he improves is he worth that?)
Batum (25M)/Lamb (new contract of ~13M?)
Monk (4M)/Bacon (2M)
Kemba (new max contract of ~30M?)/[PG we drafted in 2018 or 2019] (~3M)
Those arbitrary numbers (which are honestly generous IMO) come out to $118M, which is $10M over the projected cap, $16M under the projected luxury tax for 2019-20. It shouldn't take $16M to fill out the third string.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
Lamb get buckets. I’m sure he’d likely re-sign with Charlotte as long as Clifford continues to give him consistent minutes. Being in Charlotte kinda allows him to fly under the radar. I doubt teams are lining up to overpay him.
It would be nice to add him to the starting lineup or at least play him 30 minutes on a nightly basis off the bench. He could indisputably be the team’s 2nd best player with another offseason of growth.

I'm not sure MKG actually opts out, same with Marv. It depends on who opens up cap space this summer, but from what I've read more teams are in cap hell than not as a result of the mistaken belief the cap would continue to rise every year instead of falling a bit then leveling out as it actually did. If players/agents treat this summer like 2016 or 2017 they're probably going to get egg on their face, sorta like what happened to KCP this offseason. Money dried up quick and he was left without a serious offer. Next summer there will be even less money and more star-caliber players (Lebron, George, etc)it's hard to imagine the "middle-class" crushing it like they did the last couple years.
In that sort of climate does a defensive-specialist like MKG really beat $13m? I suppose if his shooting percentages hold he's got an outside shot, but right now it seems like he'd be the type of guy a large portion of teams would completely ignore because he doesn't shoot threes. As more people emulate Houston/Boston/Golden State (teams who already would probably pass on MKG) his market will only shrink more. Maybe an old-school team like Utah might ante up, but that seems unlikely given their other good young wings. MKG is most likely in line for a big paycut given the trajectory of the league, unless we just pay well above market value or a mystery suitor comes out of nowhere. I'd be shocked if his contract offers exceed $10m, unless it's a prove-it deal for one year.
Marv is pretty old, he's already overpaid as is and what are the chances he gets significant cash for 3+ years? I can't imagine the odds are very high for him. He may be better off being overpaid one more year and then getting the same 2yr $5-7m deal next year after finishing off his last "big" contract.
Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic (or optimistic at how poorly our players are regarded by other organizations) but I'd expect Lamb would get a big offer before either of those two.

Just realized that Lamb put up buckets on Scott Brooks’ Wizards team. I almost forgot it was Brooks that benched Lamb in favor of virtually anybody and the reason why people thought he was a bust.
