Re: NBA Draft and NCAA Basketball
Grayson was definitely lighting it up. Kid can definitely put the ball in the basket, far from a fan of his though.
Not sure what to make of Duval right now. He's looked like a much better distributor than I thought, he's quick with a decent handle to help get into the paint, and he puts in decent effort on defense from what I've seen, but man that shot is bad and he's a bit too willing to take jumpers for a guy that shoots as poorly as him. Definitely going to keep tabs on him this year, he might be a good look with the Heat pick.
Jaren Jackson had a solid night. Not sure about that jump shot right now, it was falling tonight but his shooting motion is a bit funky. Be interesting to see if it's consistent or not. Love the length, he's got solid mobility for his size, he seems comfortable taking outside jumpers, and he did a decent job on the boards tonight. Can definitely see him being a lottery pick this year if he consistently shows the shooting and shot blocking he brought tonight.
Miles Bridges had a solid second half after a weak first half. His jump shot is looking pretty good, he's definitely close to an NBA body, and he's definitely got the athleticism. I'd like to see him be aggressive like the second half all game though, he's the man on this team and he needs to make this second year back in college worth it.

I have us 5th or 6th with Brooklyn.
That's why I'm interested to see if guys like Jackson, Knox, Duval, Diallo as high risk-reward types can make a big move into the top tier.

Jaren Jackson had an impressive first half stat line, 4 turnovers is way too many though. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up ranked towards the end of season, his length and apparent ability to shoot the 3 are going to be tantalizing come draft time. Not extremely high on anyone else in this game, although Duval has been a better distributor than I expected so far even though that shot is pretty bad.
Wow, Duval with 10 assists and 6 steals against top tier competition? Bad shooting night 7-20 though, 0-3 from 3 and 3-7 from line. Can't have that.
Yeah he had an impressive game, not exactly known for his jump shot though.

How many have really panned out ?
Just Euros or anyone international? I mean a bunch in the top 5 have other than maybe Darko and Bargnani, but those guys were not killing it in Euro leagues, at least from what I remember.
But the Gasol brothers, Dirk, AK47, Arvydas Sabonis, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Peja Stojakovic, Dominique Wilkins, Boris Diaw, Goran Dragic, Vlade Divac, Toni Kukoc, Detlef Schrempf, Drazen Petrovic, Sarunas Marciulionis
There are a bunch more, like Bogdanovics and many more
Now if you mean international in general,
If you include South America, Manu Ginobili, Barbosa
If you include Africa, Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutombo
If you include China, Yao Ming
Most of the below came over for college:
If you include Australian, Ben Simmons, Andrew Bogut,
If you include Canada, Steve Nash, Wiggins
If you include Jamaica, Patrick Ewing
If you include the Virgin Islands, Tim Duncan
I'm sure I'm missing a ton too.
How many have failed is the better question
i don't consider the Bogdanovics as a cornerstone of any franchise. I am talking about Euro players. Last one with all this hype was Rubio, Montijunas, Saric, Mitotic, Valincunias
I don't know if I would want to pick any of them with a top pick

Duval reminds me of Rondo.
There's always a PG who can't shoot taken top 10 - Exum, Payton, Mudiay, Dunn, Fox in the past 4 drafts.

Jaren Jackson has an unbelievable motor. Very similar to Bridges, but he has way more length.

There are TONs of busts in college players too. It's just easier to focus on the successes because 90-95% of the players are American, but think of all the top 5 busts.
None of those you name were high picks other than Rubio who couldn't shoot. Doncic is thought of as maybe the best prospect since LeBron and best Euro prospect ever.
As it stands now, I want Doncic, Ayton or Bamba, but the latter two may have motivation problems and I'm not sure about Ayton's D, but he could be a monster on offense. Bamba could be the defensive stud. I think Doncic is a pure winner that could potentially transform a team because he refuses to lose.
It's all premature with the college guys though. Doncic is far more proven at this point.
Bagley's a stud but not sure he can play the 5 full time and not sure if he can shoot or stretch the floor at all if he has to play 4 and Porter is more of a 3/4 so not sure if best fit though if he is BPA or we are at 5 and he is there you have to take him.

Troy Brown may be a PG option next to Booker. Says he liked the PG position and playing defense in High School but because he's grown to 6'6 Oregon are playing him at SF.

Sexton had a good debut tonight with 22 points, 5 assists and 3/5 shooting from the three.
Early comparison is De'aaron Fox with a jumper. That would be a sensational player. Looking forward to seeing him play more.

I don't see that size difference.

Sexton plays like Bledsoe and I read he has an elite mental makeup which I love.
Downside is that he is a score first point guard, not known for passing.
But he's going to be very popular in this thread especially if we pick 5-8.

I think the biggest thing the Suns should focus at is upside, no matter what the position or nationality is.
Dragan Bender and Josh Jackson were alo ways guys with great median outcomes because of their defensive versatility and capability to dribble and pass relatively well. But the Suns need a guy next to Booker who has the potential to become an absolute star in order to lift the franchise to a level where they can potentially compete in the future.

Sexton is quick, but doesn't have the absolute elite burst Fox has. Also not the playmaker Fox was, Sexton far more a scoring guard.
So essentially a smaller, slower SG version of Fox, who can shoot. That doesn't sound as Fox at all.

Not sure if they would target a PG and at what point in the draft, that Miami pick maybe, but Trae Young is unreal good
Try to watch OU if you can guys, he is a delight.

Only 1.5 or so, but he is not close as an athlete, Sexton look a bit stiff to me, not that explosive or quick
Meanwhile Young was doing this out there

Nice moves, but you got to finish the layup. That miss was bad, unless he was expecting someone to slam home an alley-oop.
Fox was listed as 6'4", and I've seen Sexton listed as 6'1". That's where I got the disparity, but if he's a bit taller elsewhere, cool.

Fox is 6'4 in shoes, Sexton in shoes is 6'2, so they are probably 1.5 or 2 inches apart
Yeah Young needs to start his moves closer or work on how he times his drives, but he has real burst and talent with the ball
