Monroe took the QO in Detroit. He made the choice to move on.
Pistons were unwilling to pay him what he wanted. Not sure he liked playing with Drummond much but SVG didn't care about losing him.
Detriot realized early you couldn't play him with another traditional big because of spacing problems.
He does fit ok with guys like bender and chriss because they can protect the rim and stretch the floor. I wouldn't mind them giving him a look just to see what a player like him looks stylistically in the offense. It could help determine who they target in the draft or FA.

If we play Monroe, we have to trade Chandler or Len. Len won't give up his bird rights, I'm fairly confident. So our options are to buyout Monroe, or trade one of Monroe or Chandler. Tyson's good for our kids, and we might be able to use him next year as well.
Monroe would give us something none of our kids have played with in the NBA - a big with a post game. Would that be a useful change? Our kids have played with and learned a lot from Chandler, and he continues to be a great leader, but haven't they learned most of what they're going to learn from him already? I would think so. But if Monroe worked for us, would we want, need or even be able to re-sign him if we wanted to? Would we be okay going into next offseason having only Williams and Bender under contract at the C spot?
Ultimately, the question is, Who wants centers? Anyone want this one or that one?
I am okay with just buying Monroe out if that's what works best. Chandler will almost certainly have a new mentee if he sticks around another year. If we dealt him, well, no biggie, centers are cheap. So I'm totally flexible on this matter.
