just my opinion-- melo also exacerbates some of westbrook's bad habits. i've observed him cursing a lot more on the court and smiling petulantly to the refs when a call doesn't go his way.

melo should take a backseat because we already have a high usage, league average ts scorer on the team who also happens to pass the ball. and melo's value as an offensive player at this stage of his career is probably as a high 3Pr spot-up shooter and occasional work horse off broken possessions and the like. i don't think we get much out of running sets where melo is isolating unless it's a hilarious mismatch or melo is open to moving the ball around.

The 2 man lineup of Russ and PG has been better without Melo than with him. Early still but something to watch. They fall off a ton on defense with him.

if adams is out any length of time this comp gets polluted by dakari presence and grant c minutes both of which hinder our defense also.
i think in general the team functions best with only 2 of the 3 on the court anyway. was last night the first time we played all bench units for a length of time? benching melo seems like a nearly unanimous fan-solution to some of our issues.

Been thinking this. Maybe Russ and Melo are just too similar in certain key regards to really work together. You also left out how bad defensively both can be.

I just think it’s better for Westbrook to get them going early if possible. It will make things a lot easier on him. He will get more open looks from 3 and more open driving lanes where his efficiency can go up. I also think it’s criminal to use Melo just as a spot up 3 point shooter. We need to take advantage of his low block game. If we can use that and have some off-ball action free up Abrines or George, that could have a nice effect on our offense.
