 That crap-a** performance was .... savage :P (Here all week folks)

http://music.blog.ajc.com/2017/11/16/21-savage-blasted-for-lackluster-performance-during-atlanta-hawks-game/

Ha, I remember flipping back to see if the game was back on and seeing this skinny dude ambling around halfcourt with a microphone. I was like, "W in the actual F is this crap!?" kg03 and 04 were watching with me so I kept it clean.

Anyways, that was terri-bad. Almost as bad as Lil' Yachty last year.

We might have to rethink these performances. Most of these dudes aren't big enough to really capture a crowd like that. It's a mixed crowd of fans and a lot of people who have no idea who they are, what they're saying or what they're trying to do. So if they come out there mumbling and struggling to keep their pants up, 80% of the crowd is just gonna sit there waiting for it to end. Yawn.

Agreed. I know the Front Office folks wanted to embrace -- 'urban culture' after the previous owner made some pretty divisive remarks years ago.

But, um...this feels like an over correction.

There's gotta be some rising R&B stars or even some classic musical acts that could accomplish the goal just as (if not more) effectively.

I've aged out of hip hop but still enjoy some of the younger acts out there. This is not one of them.

NOTE: Live hip hop performances are difficult to pull off in general. A young, unseasoned performer shouldn't still be perfecting his craft in front of the reported 15,000 guests at weekly Hawks games.

I probably wouldn't go as far as to say it's an over-correction. Considering the city's status in the music industry, this is something we should've been doing for years.

I'd say the problem is in the implementation to which you made a fantastic point. Don't give these unseasoned acts this stage. They're not ready for it. It ultra-exposes weak performers. And all the 21 Savage fans can save the responses. I'm sure he's great in his element but an arena like that is decidedly not his element. Only a few hip hop artists can pull that off.

I do agree there have to be some R&B acts that'd play much better in that space. And did you say "classical" music acts? You didn't mean that did you?

LOL

I definitely should have been more specific. I meant classic as in 'old school': Smokey Robinson, The Isley Brothers, New Edition, Charlie Wilson, Bell Biv Devoe, 112, Goodie MOb, En Vogue, SWV.

18-35 year olds dominate what's current in pop culture. But 30+ year olds are still the economic drivers. How bout playing some stuff I actually know the words to and my kid(s) can listen to...

I think Overcorrection is exactly right. I mean everyone doesn't ONLY listen to hip hop. There are plenty of other options. Not like it's a choice between hip hop and country.

Game was pretty nice. Dedmon had a great game but he's been having great games. The guy is good. In fact he's better than a lot of bigs who are making a ton more money. I feel like he's hitting his prime now. Having Cavanaugh and Ersan available makes a huge difference.

Again, it's not an over-correction. It's questionable implementation. Calling it an over-correction implies it's a bad idea. Which it's not.

Another thing we should be fair and consider is the fact that we don't know if they've reached out to other genres or not.

I agree on Dedmo btw so you're not a lost cause yet, macd. Keyword: yet.

Over correction doesn't imply bad idea. It implies it's a good idea that we did too much of. I mean the United got Cee Lo to sing the national anthem. We couldn't get him to walk around the court and sing 'forget you'? I think Spud is still doing his Cee Lo tribute act so we could do that. Of course Cee lo tried to ruffie someone so probably isn't a good go to guy for the hawks but you get the picture.

Has anyone noticed that (at least on tv) the crowds this year seem pretty good. I expected to see the place empty but it seemed like there were a lot of people there. Anyone go to the game?

Sometimes, in a win like this, you might feel like the big, bad bully picking on the little boy. Not this time.
Hawks came into this game, this far into the season, with 2 wins. The Kings had 3 victories Three is bigger
than two, any way you slice it. And, they are from the big, bad west!

Switching thoughts: Cavanaugh entered his life as a Hawk by hitting his three point shots. We only look
at this and think, Wow! That may be all we see. Let's look further. Checked the box score and found
he only went 1-2 from downtown. However, he had 19 minutes last night and he had 5 rebounds, 1 block,
4 assists and was a +21 on his time in the game.

Moose has been out, injured. Plumlee, out injured, has been sent to G league, to return to game shape.
Moose, we are told, has lost his man bun (Thank goodness, he looked like an old lady with it) and is about
ready to return. Big man position becoming crowded and Cavanaugh has that duel position contract, so
he goes to G league eventually.

My thoughts: Do not trade or get rid of Dedmon or Collins. However, we are overloaded and could trade
some of our big men who are not playing right now for some young player or players who are not getting
any time with their present team OR we could get a draft pick or two for each of them.

What do you think? Ideas are like noses. Everyone has one and they are all different.

I'd be ok trading Moose, he just has not developed into his 5th year.

So prince has 14 points and 8 assists and can budge from the bottom of the barrel offensively. Marco has 10/5 and rockets to by far our best player? These stats are whack (new slang i picked up!).

Plus Prince's defense on bog was impressive. Plus his rebounds.

Cee Lo can't perform every halftime can he? Because I'm pretty sure him and Goodie Mob performed probably just last season. It's been a mix of local acts both young and old and obviously the difference in stage presence correlates to the experience of the acts. Just another case of Atlanta producing certain acts but then locals complaining about the quality of the locally produced acts...
Maybe Widespread Panic can become the in-house band, they already have a banner in the rafters.

Not too much, but I hope the renovations and the decrease in seating should help,
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
