President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

wow, someone gets paid to write that? What would be the point in negotiating a deal when other teams can't compete if you throw 500 million at him right away? What about Victor Robles? where is he in this? What type of value does Harper have in a trade? Should the Nats be considering that?

I guess the argument is Harper/Boras are going to get that (500m) from someone (Yankees.Cubs,Dodgers etc) so why not offer it right now and be done with it?
I kinda agree with the author in this case. Boras has a great relationship with the Learners and has said in the past he has an idea about what the parameters of a deal would look like.
Victor Robles is going to be a stud regardless. In my world, Robles is playing centerfield very soon (fulltime),Michael A Taylor moves to Left with Harper signed longterm and patrolling Right. Ridiculous outfield.
And as for trading Harper, you'd get a decent haul (I think) but nothing like you would have if he'd been traded a year ago.
Teams aren't going to break their farm system for basically a one year rental.

all fair points, just would've liked to see them in the article lol. Taylor-Robles-Harper is going to be sick.

Eaton is signed for several more years.
Next year starts Eaton/Taylor/Harper w. Robles likely in AAA.
By mid year, it might be Eaton/Robles/Harper w. Taylor as the 4th OF
By April of ‘19, it’s Eaton/Robles/??
I’d love a long term foursome of Eaton, Robles, Harper, Taylor w. Soto waiting in the wings.

I think the days of Taylor being a 4th outfielder are over..
Can't just bench a Gold Glove finalist....who just so happens to also provide speed & power.
I woudn't be surprised if Eaton is moved at some point.

Interesting take. Certainly not the consensus opinion, but could make sense. Eaton is controllable and good. He could fetch a decent player or two in a trade.
Straight up though, I prefer Eaton to MAT. Higher OBP, better baserunner, moves runners, does the little things.
It all might be moot if Harp leaves. MAT, Robles, Eaton would be a decent opening day 2019 lineup.

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
Most feel that Harp is going to end up with the Cubs, if they give him the cash. He'll start next season with Eaton and Taylor. I wonder if they consider moving him if they can't sign him. You might say how could they win a WS without him. With him, they haven't won a playoff series.
No way they trade Eaton. He's the metrics and analytics darling in terms of wins shares and all that stuff. Kind of like the Nats' version of Otto.

They’ll only move Harper if they are out of the running by the trade deadline which is very unlikely given the limitations of the NL East.
A player without controllable years only brings so much back in a trade, even if he is MVP caliber.
Ted Lerner probably doesn’t have many years left and he wants a c’hip. They’ll ride Harper this year.
I’m guessing they’ll have talks with Boras about an extension, but it won’t result in a contract. It’s just too tantalizing for Boras and Harper to try to earn the first 1/2 billion dollar contract.
