I guess Turner could contribute to winning but we're not at that stage right now. And, no he couldn't be flipped for higher value later. We've seen that movie end badly for 2 teams IIRC.

Harkless ... what is he? A 4? I'm not playing him over Collins or Printz so ... why?

Harkless is a combo forward just like Prince with a little more bounce . Not a bad get if we can shed Baze particularly because he'd offer better defensive positional variability in a small ball lineups with both Prince and Collins but he's more infamous for refusing to take a single 3 over the last quarter of last season because of a performance incentive that he'd get an annual 500k bonus for hitting 35% on 3s...he's clearly content that he already reached that milestone but that's as much slander as you'll get out of me on a SJU alum and Big Easter.

Evan T had a good run in Boston. He played well enough to garner a big contract and price himself out of their plans. But point taken.

Harkless is actually a solid young wing. 24 year old, 3 & D wing on a reasonable long-term contract.

He could pair well with Dennis and T Prince to shore up the wing rotation. And he likely could be packaged in a future move more easily than K Bazemore.

I wouldn't touch Turner (Evan not Myles) with a ten foot pole. Harkless does a lot of things well but I think we know what he is now and we have better versions of him on our roster already.

Rather keep headless chicken Baze than Turner, both overpriced players. Rather keep the devil I know.
If Portland is moving Harkless it's to shed salary since they are in luxury tax hell. This means they'll want to attach another one of their bad contracts to him (like Myers Leonard) meaning it'll have to be Baze plus one of Beli or Illy (Expiring) to make the salaries work.
Pass for me.

Assets and trade bait, fellas.

If someone wants to throw away a tangible asset to us...let them.

We gotta think long term. Three moves ahead, and all.

That's the thing though. Neither Turner nor Harkless are assets. Both are liabilities.

ETA: You don't remember how long Turner and Harkless have been in trade rumors.

Point taken.

But I believe Moe Harkless in Hawks University could produce something worthwhile.

Budenholzer and staff have been mostly successful molding young wings into solid all around players.

This is something I don't want to hear anymore unless we're talking about 2nd round rookies or UDFA's we're looking to build into a key roleplayer.

You need great players to win. Great players transcend systems. Harkless is being paid like a guy who's already matriculated through the whole 'development' process. EZPass

Harkless is on a bargain contract. He makes less than Bazemore. Less than Dennis. $11 million per is a reasonable contract in this day and age.

Regarding Hawks University...are we not counting the work Bud's staff did with THJ? Harkless is a year younger than Timmy -- making much less per season.

MY issue has always been that we take so much pride in rehabbing talentless players, but we won't even try converting actual kids with upside and skill?

You don't like Harkless. I get it. But he's younger than Baze. Makes less than Baze. Has higher upside than Baze. Is more tradable than Baze.

A Bazemore for Harkless trade is absolutely to our benefit.

It's funny, cause I'm not even a huge Harkless fan. I just really want Bazemore moved.
And I want more assets for our rebuild.

I was listening to the NBA Lockdown/Hoops Collective Podcast on ESPN this week and they reiterated what most of us have guessed for years. Hawks had so many trade offers in years past for Horford and Millsap that we passed on.

They stated that had we moved Horford, we had an offer of Otto Porter and a future 1st rounder from WAS. We had trade deals for Millsap in exchange for multiple 1st round picks from PHX and/or Denver.

We could be stacked with picks/prospects/young players to use as currency in trade. But we didn't, and we're all the worse for it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't want us to make the same mistakes. We don't have a franchise player on this team. So any chance we get to upgrade our assets we should pursue. I hear folks here intent on keeping career backup Dewayne Dedmon and preferring to keep journeyman Marco Bellinelli after 6 weeks of decent play instead of pursuing young players with upside.

Last year, guys here insisted they'd rather build around Jeff Teague than Kyrie Irving. Before that a frequent poster insisted Jeff Teague was a better option than Russell Westbrook.

:nonono:

...it's the same mistakes we've always made. Massively overvaluing the modest players we have here.

That's not a you thing either, kg. It's an US thing.

Turner is like throwing bad money after worse money.
I have no issue taking Harkless - he's making less than Bazemore and is younger. The difficulty is having to take back a bad contract from Portland without an additional asset.

I believe in assets so if it helps us with flexibility I'm all for it. I'm just not into taking too many players...just want picks..lol ..I know easier said than done.

Picks over players (unless it's a good one). Easier to be more flexible - combine them with a player, combine multiples, trade for future first, swap picks.

At this time, I am not looking to move anyone. What about you guys?

Maybe by ASB, if someone offers a 1st for Belli or Dedmon, I would listen but not for Dennis, Collins, Prince or Bembry.

Actively looking? Moose, Belinelli, Dedmon, Babbitt, Ersan.

Would like to, but not likely? Bazemore and Plumlee

Then there is the rest.

Today No. By the trade deadline - options abound.
I would like a Korver type deal for Beli. He keeps shooting like this he'll have a ton of suitors. Same with Dedmon and Babbit too. (But I don't think we move all 3 - still need good vets to help our young players and grow and to make Bud's system hum)
Illyasova and Moose if they get healthy.

Dennis, Bembry, Prince and Collins - No.
At least not until the draft when you know where a pick will be.

I would love to trade Plumlee or Baze but I don't want to give up an asset and the asset is worth more than getting rid of one of them.

I agree, a late 1st in 2021 is would work for me for Beli.
