Greg Monroe
Hi guys and girls.
I looked and couldn't see a Greg Monroe thread on here. A pretty heavily scrutinised player in Milwaukee but certainly one I think most grew to love.
It appears likely he won't be a sun for long and you guys are in a tough position but he will battle hard and give you his best.
I wrote a piece for creamcitycentral.com on his milwaukee tenure. I assume most here will be against keeping him beyond this year if he somehow ends up on the roster through the season but none the less you may find this interesting.
Sorry again for starting a new thread but perhaps all Monroe talk will kick off here anyway. I'll certainly take the time to check you guys out more often now because of the big fella.
Good luck.

Re: Greg Monroe
I’m not against keeping him through the season. If he wants to stay here and we can get him at a good deal then why not.
I’m tired of this BS the Suns are doing where they only want 18-19 year olds on the damn team. Like no, it’s okay to have a couple guys in the late 20s and especially ones who can actually play like Monroe unlike the other ones on the roster.

Re: Greg Monroe
The dude will be 28 this offseason, so he obviously doesn't fit our timeline. I actually wouldn't mind keeping him over Chandler. He gives us a scorer in the post something we desperately need. If we can keep him for maybe 10-12mil a year, sign a 3 year deal then I'm all for it.

Maybe we can trade Len for a journeyman PG?

Our timeline to starting winning is next year. If the plan is to trot out 14 players who are 18-22 + Warren at 25 next year it will be another blood bath. Teams do not win without a significant veteran presence. That doesn't mean one token old guy (e.g., Dudley). We need 5-6 really good young players and 8-9 veterans as a supporting cast. It is time to move a portion of our draft picks and young guys for some legit players.

He needs to stay. It's possible for players to be in their prime in their late 20s. The guy had to deal with having little practice with a new team, our **** pg situation and he still goes for 20/10 in his first game. Can't remember last time Len did that.

McD should just waive Len right now. It would be the best money Sarver ever spent.

And he did it without prancing around like look at me after every board and made basket like Len does when he accidently makes a positive play, act like ya been here before. Two plays in general that was a breath of fresh air, one where we dumped it down to him against Capella, with his back to the basket. Monroe hit him with two post moves and it was apperant that without help Capella had no chance of stopping him, and he didn't. Two the ball was dumped down and was batted, so it was rolling around at Monroe's feet while surrounded by 2 to 3 defenders. He reaches down, snatches the ball up off the ground goes straight up, two points. Alex Len never comes up with those, bad hands not coordinated enough to stab the ball even if he did have hands and Chandler sad to say is a little too stiff in his old age to bend over in traffic and dig one out on the floor. Keep Monroe, see if he and Knight are still friends and wish to play together next year if his price is reasonable.

I agree.
We are are in desperate need of talent, not potential or upside. We have enough of "potential" with Ulis, DJJ, Chriss, Jackson, Reed and Bender.
We have in Monroe a talented big who is 27 years old and he is on a contract year. He is not an All Star but he is better than any other big that we have on the roster. Play the guy for the rest of the season PLEASE.

Re: Greg Monroe
We definitely don't need 8 or 9 vets as someone mentioned.
I wouldn't be against keeping Monroe depending on the cost. I think if he doesn't find a decent long term deal it might make sense to give him a nice 1 year deal to keep our cap clean for 2019 and he might be more willing to stay if he knows he can re-enter free agency next year.
This would work out better if Chandler was expiring this year but I guess 3 centers isn't that bad. We had it last year and this year. There is always a chance one is injured and that's usually the case between the 3.

Re: Greg Monroe
For what it's worth, role won't be an issue. He came to milwaukee as a marquee free agent signing and expected to start. Lost his job after 67 games and it was never an issue. Never was seen complaining or sulking. He's a great team mate.

Besides this calf injury that he just had, he’s been a very durable player throughout his career too which is a huge bonus as a big.

Re: Greg Monroe
If you can keep him for Alan Williams money as a 2nd unit C why not.
Dudley got more to do less but ultimately didn't get in the way of anything.
Ayton - Monroe would be a major change at the C position.

Monroe did very good for his first game 21 points on 10/14 shooting and 11 rebounds maybe we can get a first rounder for him or maybe re sign him for 5/50 million and move Chandler and then decide on Len over the summer lots of options now.

Re: Greg Monroe
Monroe will look for 12 million a year on a playoff team... or 20 million a year on a bad team, if he's going to be frustrated, might as well get paid.

Re: Greg Monroe
I don't want to pay him. Keep him for the season if we can't get anything of value for him from another team. If he doesn't want to o be here and we can't get anything of value then buyout and pet him go where he wants. That would be seen as a classy move to potential free agents down the line to not force a guy to rot on a lotto team.

Re: Greg Monroe
The better he plays the more likely he gets traded so there might not be a situation where he's still here and worth a contract.
