2018 -- NBA Games Thread

My observations:

1. Duke is incredibly loaded with talent. Too much talent. It's almost unfair.

2. Jaren Jackson is a legit top 5 draft candidate. An impressive 3-pt stroke and supreme shot blocking with solid rebounding and the athleticism to finish in transition.

3. Grayson Allen is worth a late first round pick. Good size, high IQ and he is a shot maker.

4. Miles Bridges is a good player and any team would be happy to have him on the roster. But his limited offensive skills mean he isn't a star. He can't shoot off the dribble... Which limits his effectiveness.

5. Bagley is just physically gifted. More so than anyone else on the court tonight.

6. Duval has star potential at PG. He just needs to improve his jumper. It's really the only flaw.

7. Wendell Carter should stay n school one more year. Most drafts he'd be a lock as a top ten pick. But this year he is a fringe lottery selection as he will be overshadowed with all the firepower on this Duke squad. Next year's team would be his squad. Get stronger, get more polished go top 8 in 2019.

8. Gary Trent, Jr. has good size for his position, is a fearless scorer, but is still flawed. Not surprising considering his age.

The Ringer disagrees with my assessment of Bridges:
Miles Bridges is a remarkable basketball player, and we’re all better for having him at Michigan State this season. He’s a bona fide star. Bridges started slowly, but picked up steam late, finishing with 19 points (on 7-for-15 shooting, and 50 percent accuracy behind the arc), five rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.

Man, I went to bed thinking BOS had no shot at a comeback.

Great win for the Eastern Conference.

Celtics slowed the pace and played a mucked up, low scoring affair as opposed to what the Warriors are used to.

Adjustments at halftime by Brad Stevens were critical.

14 in a row is impressive.

Just imagine if they get another lottery pick next summer. :nonono:

I CLEARLY went to bed too early last Wednesday night. The young big man dropped 46/15/7 in a victory over the Lakers.

Kuzma and B Ingram also had good games -- combining for 50 points and 18 rebounds.

Things look less rosy for the Lakers, though.

Between D'Angelo, Randle (and perhaps Ingram) they have wasted some prime lottery selections and not properly developed anyone.

A couple of teenaged rooks shaking off some rust.

Gotta give credit where it's due.

I hate these cherry-picked statline things. Who's the last rookie with 23 points and 8 boards and 2 fouls on a Tuesday, Clevis? What rookie had the most rebounds in 18 years, Lakers Twit?

Just say the guy had a good game and leave it at that.

ETA: And I'm not gonna give you credit for admitting teen rookies are playing well. Guys who were teens as rookies run the NBA and you know it. :x

:-?

It's seriously not about me, kg. I think most of these kids have struggled so early because they're not ready for the big stage. But I don't wish them ill will. I don't blame them.

I blame the adults who exploit and discard them time and time again.

I hope Lonzo Ball can weather the early adversity brought on by his father and from playing in his hometown. The league will be a better place if this kid becomes a top player on the most important franchise in the NBA. (Sorry, Beantown.)

NOTE: The issue was never about the talent level of kids who came in as teenagers. It was simply about the preparation level, maturity level, strength level at that early age. It's not controversial to state that most people are better prepared for life at age 21 than they are at age 18.

Forgotten as Boston has stolen all the headlines early, SVG has Detroit playing some damn good basketball.

This could be a job saving season for Van Gundy. Turns out he just needed a healthy Reggie Jackson, a motivated Drummond and the all-world defense of Avery Bradley.

And Tobias Harris is damn good. SVG is a great coach and he stuck with his plan. Kudos to him. They need to bolster the bench some though. Ersan or Marco would be great for the pistons.

^yES! I Absolutely overlooked Tobias and he shouldn't be overlooked.

So much good stuff going for the Pistons.

(And agree -- they should be potential trade partner for any of our vets.)

Sounds like the Cavs have righted the ship:

In the end it's Celtics and Cavs. And honestly the Cavs will probably still come out on top but it may depend on mid season trades and whether IT will give them anything. Kyrie is destroying all the critics. Boston will slump at some point but Kyrie wasted no time shutting people up.

Sad but the east playoffs is almost set except the Bucks will eventually make it in the top 8 and the Pacers will fall.

In my dreams, this matchup would be much more appealing than it is in reality.

OKC trading for PG13 was brilliant.

The 'Melo trade may have been overk!ll, however.

Bring C Anthony off the bench!!!!

Was a great night in the association: Mavs won, Kings won to aid the tank. Celtics lost and had their win streak snapped 3 shy of the 2015 Hawks, Russell Westbrook got a measure of revenge against KD and it was fun to watch.

I don't even recognize the NBA anymore. At this rate, they might have to seriously consider moving back the 3-pt line a few inches.

Or have no 3 point line until the 4th quarter.

Kings won a big one in Oakland against the Warriors. All hail the tank!

Big win by the Pistons. Not getting the headlines, but they appear to be a legit playoff squad after a couple of underwhelming seasons.

Drummond (26 pts, 22 reb) leads Pistons past Celtics 118-108

Andre Drummond scored 26 points with 22 rebounds -- both season highs -- and Tobias Harris scored 31 to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 118-108 victory on Monday night and send the Celtics to their first loss in Boston since their home opener.
ESPN

Avery Bradley had a nice performance defensively. I am an SVG fan, and am glad he's righted the ship after a tumultuous offseason.

iN my dreams, these guys played together in BOS and made up one of the best backcourts in the league.
