Why should I watch?

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Wed Nov 22, 2017 5:00 pm

A 40 year old quarterback with 5 Super Bowls continues to play. Other than winning a sixth Super Bowl he has nothing to play for. The loser? Jimmy Garoppolo. John Elway did what was right(retiring after his second win) regardless of how I feel about his abilities, while Tom Brady looks out for Tom Brady. The media? Silence.
A Donald Trump supporter. Not getting much media attention.
The Patriots' 13-6 record without Brady starting. The media? Silence.
The defense was underwhelming early in the year. The Patriots struggled. Brady got exposed. The media? Mostly silence.
A 40 year old quarterback probably winning MVP. A conference that is looking awful. A division that is underwhelming again. Do words like lucky get used by the media? I don't hear it.

The announcers and commentators tend to be just as bad as the media. I've never seen a player get away with what Brady has, including another media darling Lebron James. I did not watch the NBA Championship because of Lebron, and I've slowly been putting Brady in the same category. I'm leaning towards never watching another Patriots game as long as Brady is playing. Why should I watch?

I'm tired of Brady too, but why should he retire? He's still playing at an extremely high level. Let him do what he wants. I don't go out of my way to watch Patriots games though, hope he doesn't win his division, and root against him in the playoffs. Unfortunately his division sometimes starts out looking decent and then the teams seem to crumble down the stretch, so yes, they win by default and get a high seed and usually a home playoff game due to easy division wins.

If there are tough teams in the AFC, they usually get knocked out in the playoffs, but unfortunately there usually are not many really tough teams they have to face in the playoffs.

Blame other AFC teams. It falls on teams to adapt & to prevent NE from having a cakewalk through the conference. Teams like Denver & Pittsburgh have challenged at different times. But, no one has really stepped up recently.

Don't watch. If you can't appreciate the GOAT defying all odds and still being at the top of his game at 40 years old, and are going to cling to pointless hating, nobody is forcing you to watch. I don't think Tom Brady cares, I don't think the NFL cares, I certainly don't care, and I'm pretty sure everyone has more important things to do than to try and convince you to watch the Super Bowl.

But hey, if you want to watch bad football instead of good football, stick to the Browns.

The Steelers have never challenged the Patriots. They get owned every time.

The Broncos have been their toughest AFC competition for sure.

Baltimore knocked them out of the postseason a couple times as well, if I recall correctly.

Personally, I don't really care if you watch or not.

I enjoy watching a legend continue to defy odds time and time and time again.

And if I can toot my homer horn, two other playoff games dropped right through the hands of Lee Evans and Owen Daniels.

Who gives a crap about Jimmy Garoppolo? If you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best. Brady is the best and ol' Jimmy ain't good enough to dethrone the GOAT.
The right thing to do is to retire whenever you want to. He's still killing it. If he wants to hang on until he's 50 and pathetic, that's his business as long as a team wants to pay him. It doesn't make the 15 year prime of his career any less impressive.
His vote doesn't affect his completion percentage or ability to read a defense, so I don't really care about that in this forum.
What is the media supposed to do? It's been like ten years since the Matt Cassell season. In fact, if you want a media investigation, I'll provide exactly what they'll find out. Patriots also have the greatest coach of all time. He's so good that he can win without the greatest QB of all time. Please don't retort with anything that implies that just because one guy is great, another guy on that team can't be.
Brady got exposed how? By keeping the team treading water while the defense was playing historically bad football. Or did he get exposed by playing like an MVP even though he lost Edelman in what, the first game? I'm not sure if you noticed, but they historically sputter a little in September and hit stride by the end of October.
You don't get lucky 16, 17 years in a row. You don't luck into Super Bowl wins. The media outside of Skip Bayless doesn't care to insult the athletes and their own intelligence by playing the "they got lucky" card.
As for James, he has been picked apart more than any star athlete I have seen in my life. James is anything but a media darling. He's been a critical whipping boy for the most part and his only crime has been not hitting every single shot he ever took and winning every single game he ever played like Michael Jordan did. The reason you should watch either of them is so you can witness all time greatness and appreciate it instead of complaining about it.

Not sure how you can so emphatically make this statement with the below evidence...seems as if that statement was quite 'hyperbolic'

10/30/2011 Pittsburgh Steelers New England Patriots Heinz Field (Pittsburgh, PA) W 25-17
11/30/2008 Pittsburgh Steelers New England Patriots A Gillette Stadium (Foxborough) W 33-10
10/31/2004 Pittsburgh Steelers New England Patriots H Heinz Field (Pittsburgh, PA) W 34-20

...and then there was the game they were missing Bell, yet still out-gained them by 100 yds, and lost by a TD, in Gillette Stadium:

09/10/2015 Pittsburgh Steelers New England Patriots A Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, MA) L 28-21

I wouldn't exactly call that 'owned every time'.

Wasn't 2008 the Matt Cassel year? So they've never beaten Brady in Foxboro and never beaten him and the Patriots at Heinz in a game after November 1st, when the Patriots typically kick their season in gear...if it's not ownage, it's at least pulling into the parking lot where ownage does business.

I'm not sure I agree with all the post here. I look at it differently. Yes, even though I live here in the Northeast, I really don't care for the Patriots myself. After I watch my team win or lose, I prefer watching the better or elite teams play and that has included the Patriots for many years. I can't stand watching pathetic losers year in and year out like the Bills Vs. Dolphins, Browns vs. Jets, Chargers vs, Colts, etc,. I agree with Jack, the AFC needs to step it up, especially the AFC East. Outside of Denver, the Ravens and Steelers once in a while over a decade and a half, its quite embarrassing. I want to go back to the days when only the elite and winning teams got to play on prime time. IMHO, this is one of the reasons why ratings are dropping this year. As much as I love watching football on Thursday nights, we have these crappy divisional match ups, most of them suck. I really have no interest of watching suckie teams like the Browns, Bills, Jets, Bengals, 49ers, Bears, Dolphins, Buccaneers and Cardinals on prime time. And unless your a fan of one of those teams, most fans don't like watching those match ups either.

3 wins in 13 years, one of them without Brady, and zero wins in the playoffs.

That's ownage, plain and simple. I'd never pick the Steelers to take out the Patriots in the playoffs.
