Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
To be fair, Monk is shooting worse than Bacon at a much higher volume and with worse defense.
Good point about Graham though, very surprised to see Bacon getting minutes over Graham.

Is Graham still nursing an injury?

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I'm going have to assume Monk wasn't going to get minutes to begin with. He was just thrust into that role due to Batum and MKG being out. He's performed about what you'd expect from a 19 year old drafted around the bottom of the top 10 with a few promising moments. Give him a year to get stronger and better understand the NBA game. Some are against sending him to the Swarm, but I think him staying fresh is good. We just can't risk him getting minutes for the Hornets right now until he's proven that he won't be a major liability, especially on defense.

He was getting major minutes to start the year and put up some horrible lines. Do you expect him to get like 30 minutes or something?
The team won the previous 3 games with Monk only playing 1 minute. Monk is our insurance policy if another guard goes down, but right now he's just not any better than who we have on the floor. He's too young and lacking majorly in defense. In fact, he's one of the worst defenders in the NBA, so no matter how many points you think he'll put up, it's probably not going to matter.
And, yeah Lamb and Kemba were off tonight. But, Monk has been shooting that bad on almost a nightly basis. You have to earn your minutes with Cliff and Monk hasn't done that.

I said in literally the page before this one that he needs 10 minutes a game.

When your team goes 5-23 and 0-8 in the fourth quarter of a winnable game, but there's a rookie on the bench who could fix that<<<

Like he did against the Knicks when he went 1-5 in the 4th quarter? Or are you talking about like in Boston when he went 0-2 in the 4th quarter? Then, there was Cleveland at home where he went 0-1. Which game led you to think Monk was going to be the answer in this one?

He went bonkers in that one game. Not likely he would've went that way yesterday, but its at least possible.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Monk hasn't earned minutes. Bacon actually played well yesterday, so I have zero issues with our minute allocation. If Monk played in the 4th who is sitting and who is he guarding?

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Eh, I don't think Bacon has earned minutes either, but I'm fine with Monk being out of the rotation for a while to get some time to watch and learn. There are matchups where I'd currently rather him get minutes than Bacon, but Bacon makes more sense against the Cavs. We needed the extra size/length and Bacon was actually matched up against Lebron at times in his short run. I definitely think at some point in the not distant future we need to give Monk another shot. His fit with MCW and Lamb/Batum on the second unit is theoretically good and he still has the ability to go on scoring barrages that no one else on the team other than Kemba and Lamb are capable of. I'd give him some regular minutes eventually, but with a short leash on a game to game basis.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
That reasoning is so bad, it's not even good enough to be horrible. A rookie guard was 0-2 in the fourth of one game. 0-1 in another, so let's watch other people go 1-12. How about the one when that rookie guard hit five 3s in a quarter? The whole TEAM made 5 baskets in the fourth last night.

I don't know, it seems like you're choosing to see what you want to see. I'm looking at the big picture here, you produced one game where Monk performed pretty good, but even in that one, his defense absolutely blew that 4th quarter. Let's just look at 4th quarter stats for the year.

And, you think Monk was the answer here against the defending East champs? I like Monk man, but I'm not blind. He's young and is very raw. No way I put him in thinking he's going to create something out of nothing.

I would just throw Monk to the fire and let him learn on the job. I'm not sure what he'd be learning from the bench, watching MCW et al heave brick after brick.

This is what I've been trying to say. If we're gonna lose 2/3 of our games, might as well get the rookies a chance to learn how to score instead of learning how to watch Frank and MCW suck.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Seems like we have higher aspirations than losing 2/3 of our games. We're definitely not going to sacrifice wins to get Monk game experience, and I think we would if we gave him a major role in the rotation.

Monk doesn't need to be playing much right now. I like giving him a look at the start of the 2nd to see if he's hot. If he is, give him a look at the start of the 4th too. If he isn't give him some padding for his seat so he doesn't get a bruised coccyx sitting down too long

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Seems like we lose just as well without Monk to me. I'm sure the stats look devastating with Monk in the lineups but A) how much of a sample size is that, B) how can you gauge someone's consistency if he's never given consistent minutes/lineups and C) scratching for Pyrrhic victories isn't a strong indicator of playoff success. How many years of getting ran out of the 1st round does it take before we hunger for more? MCW, Frank, Zeller, etc aren't x-factors that are going to take big leaps forward and carry us to postseason glory, they're solid players (sometimes) but simply don't have the talent. Monk might have that talent but he ain't gonna tap into it from the bench.
