Haven't done any research in crop of PG's or prospects outside of top 5 in this upcoming draft but it seems like we could probably grab a better PG prospect in the late-lotto, mid-1st part of the draft than our current PG rotation.

I am very high on Wendell Carter. A front court of him and Bender could be amazing making plays out of the high post. It's early on but I'm liking the lottery of this class more than last year.

Dont forget about Jontay Porter too.
Super skilled w/ a smooth jumper.

Jontay Porter is averaging 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks per 36.

Funny situation where if he plays well it'll help Michael Porter.

There will be lots of toys in the MIA/MIL pick area. We won't draft three guys but you could trade two picks for a star/borderline star and grab a legit big man in the teens.

Jaren Jackson has completely sucked in a couple recent games which is scary as he's considered the best of the rest (outside top 5).

Wendell Carter Jr. is my favourite big outside of Ayton and Bamba. He's going to be really solid.

Not too sure how I feel about this draft right now. It was so hyped preseason, and the top dogs have definitely shown it was for eal, but the rest of the class hasn't got me as convinced. Porter getting hurt definitely hurt the top of the draft too, although he could still declare. Tough to know where he'll go with very little college tape.

Marvin Bagley has been extremely productive, but as far as offensive skill sets go he doesn't have a strong jump shot, he's not an advanced ball handler, and he hasn't been as good of a playmaker as I thought he'd be. So much of his production has been based off of his insane motor and his elite size and athleticism at the college level, which worries me a bit about how much will immediately transfer to the NBA immediately. With that said there's no denying the production, I love his motor, and he's young and has a lot of time to develop, so he definitely deserves his status as a top pick. I'm just thinking he might be more of a project as far as skill development goes than initially let on, but it's also really early in the season.

Ayton's motor and defensive intensity are really the only things that scare me with him, and I'm hoping that Sean Miller can work that out of him by the end of the season. There's no doubt he's got an NBA body and great athleticism and mobility for a center, he's great on the boards, and he looks like he's comfortable shooting jumpers despite not shooting well so far. I've seen people say they get KAT vibes, which I can kind of see. I think he's my top guy for the Suns right now, especially if he shows more intensity on defense as the year goes.

After those 2, I'm not too crazy about the college guys. I'm a Colin Sexton and Trae Young fan, but neither of them have good size or athleticism for an NBA point guard, both are more of scorers/dimers than facilitators as PGs on offense, and we haven't seen a large shooting volume yet. Bamba's defensive impact is impressive, but he doesn't have much of a feel for how to make an impact on offense for Texas yet and his offensive skill set has a long way to go. His upside is definitely attractive though.

The median outcome for the past 20 years is (with rough rankings):

1 All-Star at pick 1 (Ayton)
1 All-Star between picks 2-5 (Doncic, Bagley, Bamba, Porter)
1 All-Star between picks 6-10 (Sexton, Jackson, Knox, Duval, Diallo)

Comparisons from mocks about possible targets for the Suns in the 5-10 range :

Sexton - Bledsoe
Jackson - Chriss
Carter - Monroe

Let's hope for a top 5 pick.

Question for the long time Phoenix locals. Is Bagley the best prospect to ever come out of Phoenix? I've lived here for 15 years and don't really follow the prep scene but he's the best I remember.

Best after Channing Frye. Just kidding. As far as I remember, yes. Bibby was a big name prospect who was PAC 10 freshman of the year and then as a soph PAC 10 player of the year and went #2 in the draft, but I'm not sure he had the hype Bagley did or he may have come out after 1 year. Richard Jefferson was a pretty big name prospect too.

I think everyone felt Bayless was going to beast out. I thought he was going to go straight to the NBA but they changed the rules a year or two before so he had to do college for a year. He went 11th in a pretty stacked draft that included Rose, Mayo, Westbrook, Love, Beasley, Gallinari, Eric Gordon, Lopez bros, Batum, Hill, DeAndre Jordan, Hibbert, Ibaka, Ryan Anderson, Dragic, Mario Chalmers. Literally just looked at the draft, and man, was that draft stacked with stars, role players, and everything in between!

You bet. Him, Sexton and Duval are all better than anything we have at PG this year. One of them will be available late lottery with one of our lesser pick(s).

What I can't figure out about Trae Young, who is averaging more ppg than Sexton (even before today's game) and twice the assists of him, is, why isn't Trae Young even in the espn top 100 or in any mocks I see at all?

What am I missing?

He is not very fast or athletic. His "thing" is his herky jerky style of moving on the floor. He forces shots for himself. He will likely be a defensive liability in the NBA. He lives at the free throw line. With slightly better defense in the nba, he is not going to get those calls. Sort of a less athletic Brandon Knight. That is my initial impression, but I will keep watching and be open to changing it.

Except he averages over twice as many assists and about the same # of turnovers per game.

I'm not seeing the comparison of Young with Knight. Knight has always been a scorer first, second and third. He only passes as a last resort, imo.

As far as Bagley, I believe that he is the best NBA prospect to ever come out of AZ, although he only played in AZ his freshmen year and a few games with Hillcrest his sophomore year. He was the POY in AZ as a freshmen. Whereas, Bibby was POY in hs his last 3 years. Bibby played 2 years at UA and won the improbable title as a Frosh. I think it would still be fair to call Bibby the favorite son of AZ.

Trae Young has been watching alot of Steph Curry very similar styles.

At 6'0 height and 6'1 wingspan though he is in the smallest 1% at NBA level.
