Re: Game 21: Phoenix Suns at Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday
Suns need to drop this improv-offense crap.
Seriously, clamp down, focus on defense, organize basketball... get X and Os out there.
I really feel bad for the development of the youth, learning street ball tactics

I understand that people want to watch our young players, but they are playing enough (more than 20 mpg) and when they are on the court they SUCK. They are playing poor basket (Chriss, Bender, Jackson and UIis) so if you play them around 34 mpg we could lose every game by 60 points EASILY.
I would love to watch our youngsters to play great basketball, but they are not there yet.
They're not even close to being there which scares me.

Re: Game 21: Phoenix Suns at Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday
It's coaching...
They put their players in good position to learn and develop from.
You telling me a player like Josh Jackson won't be killing it in a team like Spurs, Grizzlies... heck even Warriors?
Where he will get enough opportunities to score in an efficient manner so he doesn't force shots from the 3 or try to create out of nothing... which is what Suns offense is based on... Chaos.
Bender and Jackson in a strict X and O system where they have clear roles would thrive. Playing with PGs that rotate the ball their way openly also helps to ease the frustration. Chriss would be in the dog house under a strict coach... he has so much potential but his mental approach, low IQ (should be getting mentored) and poor fundamentals would be ironed-out with a proper coach telling him how it is.

Wow. Triano really went with Monroe and Chandler again?
Not really in the mood to 're-watch' this game at all.

Monroe has completely sucked since Chandler came back.

I have a feeling management is playing a much larger role in the coaching decisions of this team than is usually warranted. Hornaceck, Watson and now Triano are always putting guys in the lineup that definitely shouldn't be in at certain times, mainly to be showcased for a trade.

Chandler being inside looking for offensive boards operates in the same area Monroe is trying to do work offensively. Chriss tends to float a little further away from the basket which allows Monroe some space to do his scoring and passing.
Just terrible spacing. Not sure why Triano is running with this line up...

Re: Game 21: Phoenix Suns at Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday
The reason our offense sucks and breaks down into nothing is because literally no one can shoot the ball outside of Booker and Troy Daniels. There's no spacing, every drive has help waiting and no one outside of Booker can consistently punish them for it. We have the worst point guard rotation in the league by far. Our centers can't operate outside of 5 feet and only the temporary one can consistently create his own shot in the post. Our small forwards can't/won't shoot from 3, and what good are slashers when the entire paint is clogged? Our power forwards haven't proven they can make a 3 consistently and both have a long way to go before being contributors on a good team, although I'm personally encouraged by Bender's improvement from last year to this year.
I guarantee Triano is working these young guys hard. When he came on, he said we'd likely be a team that practices really hard and isn't always as fresh for games as opposed to a team that doesn't practice as hard to be fresh and win. He's reportedly been using every opportunity, even game day walkthroughs, as his mini-training camp and said he'd be doing that for at least the first few months. He's a very well respected coach that has been coaching at a high level for a long time, you can listen to some of his clinics on YouTube if you want proof, the dude knows the game. We need to stop dicking around and get a proven Head Coach this offseason, but Triano is not a bad coach to help develop this raw team through this season.
The problem is that this roster is going to be bad no matter who is coaching. We've got a bunch of draft picks, no legitimate starting point guard, and no real option at center. We can call this season our last developmental season and say we're going to be aggressive in the offseason, but McDonough needs to do his job and put together a roster that can actually win some games, starting with a point guard.

Who else is creating scoring opportunities?

Hopefully a new PG that doesn't suck.

Starting with Chandler and Monroe is just ugly. Bender and Chriss need to get as much playing time as possible.

What’s wrong with this coach? Booker is out and it’s ok for James to come down court and shoot 1 on 5 over and over again?!?
Disgusting.

Worst thing to do for a young player is just hand him the starting job. I think it nearly ruined Chriss last year. That kid has TONS to learn about the game. He has work to do. He has to earn it.

Has worked pretty well for Tatum, Simmons, Kuzma, Collins and Markkanen. However, maybe they earned it. I'd probably start Dudley though and then rotate one of the young guys in quickly, and yank them if they are not putting in effort. I'd also like to see Bender start crashing the boards a little more. He seems to do a lot of things that don't show up in the box score but it would be nice if he did more things that did show up. He should at least be collecting some rebounds. However I guess he spent quite a bit of time at the 3 in this last game so was guarding guys on the perimeter and of course on offense they have him on the perimeter.

Re: Game 21: Phoenix Suns at Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday
Why is everybody so angry about this game? I expected a blowout so 11 points loss is not that bad. Suns were shooting good but got outrebounded (as could be expected). I saw much worse games.
But please don't start Monroe with Chandler any more. I don't understand this. Even if it's only to showcase Greg before the trade then why after that play Bender with Chriss?

I think the Monroe-Chandler front line has been in part a means to elevate Bender over Chriss in the rotation without giving Dragan more than he has earned. If Dragan is able to maintain his current level of play, I expect him to take the starting job shortly.
