Re: Potential sleepers
Jevon Carter? I know his SPG is boosted by West Virginia running a press defense, but he's looking really good. Could be a solid role player at the next level.

I liked him at the end of last year, but the more I watch him this year, the more down I am on him. He’s slow for a point guard. He’s a good defender, but I don’t think it will translate to the next level. His shooting percentages aren’t good this year and his assist to turnover ratio isn’t good either. He’s a G-league player IMO.

I agree that he's slow for a point guard, there's a cap on his potential. But he could be a good 3&D role player type off the bench. He's shooting 38.5% from downtown on 5.6 attempts which isn't too bad, and he's shooting 89.7% from the line.

Re: Potential sleepers
Jessie Govan is getting severely underrated. He’s still 20 years old, 6’11 with a 7’4 wingspan. Good mobility. Scoring 19pts per game on 65% FG%, 62% 3PT% (Granted it’s 2 attempts per game), 12 rebounds (pretty much 4 offensive per game) 2 assists, 1.3 blocks. On top of that, Georgetown’s playing style under Patrick Ewing has pretty much been the Hornet’s game plan. They play like an NBA team. Ewing has been making him look really good.

Can you get the pelicans a 3d with solid distributing skills? Doesn't need to be elite at anything just overall

The more I watch Charles Matthews, the more I think I’m underrating him. He’s starting to make his threes. He looks like a really good NBA prospect.

Re: Potential sleepers
The thing about matthews is he's a ok shooter, solid slasher but unless he gets more strength who can he defend in the nba? And iffy handles

Apparently he spent his transfer year practicing his shot and so far I haven’t been impressed, but these last couple of games it looks like it’s coming together. And he has some moments where he has a super nice handle. He has nice broad shoulders and his waist isn’t too thin. I think he has a frame that could carry more weight pretty well. But even has a guy that sits at the end of the bench for two years while he develops some parts of his game, I think he’s super valuable. If he gains weight he could potentially play three positions, especially now in the small-ball era.

Dewan Huell from Miami. Moves really well and he’s really athletic.

There are so many players who can become decent NBA players these days. Outside of the obvious guys, player development and situation is key. The new G-league will save a lot of these guys careers that would have flopped just a few years earlier.

Re: Potential sleepers
If he tightens his handles and gets more physical he can be a deandre liggins that can roam around the lg. That was one of his hs comparisons

Lol Liggins was not as athletic as this guy, Matthews is also quicker. Liggins was also guard, Matthews is a forward. Wonder who gave him that comparison because I don’t see it at all. Also look at each of their jumpers side to side. Liggins barely jumps when he shoots, Matthews shoots super high up from the ground, like Wiggins. He uses his vert.

Liggins was athletic. Taller than Matthews unless he has grown

I was watching old Kentucky games with Liggins before I commented. And right before I watched the recent Michigan-North Carolina. They’re different players. Liggins was athletic, but not jump off the page athletic. Matthews is, and Matthews gets a ton of rebounds/has a great second jump. He’s a forward in the way that he plays and with the type of athletic he is.

Re: Potential sleepers
Like doordoor123 said, Charles Matthews is definitely more quick twitch than Liggins which translates in transition and at the rim, much more elevation on his jumper, and a better feel for the game especially with the instruction of Beilein and not Calipari.
