The final is going to be over a year from now.

I'll take Bader, or whomever the alternate ends up being.

The prospect of watching some crazy sh*t like Mir/Mo or Sonnen/Fedor is just awesome to me, regardless of the circus.

Apparently it's Fedor/Mir and they want Rampage/Sonnen. Big Country and Mo have trained together... Kind of don't think they do Big Country / Mitrione rematch? Big Country/Bader and King Mo/Mitrione?

Here is the targeted bracket...meathead/Roy and Chael/rampage on one side....and Fedor/Mir and mo/Bader on the other.

Roy vs bader in the finals then.
Maybe Roy vs Mir.

I'd like Roy vs rampage in the first round, because that's the fight I'd like to see most.

Agreed. If it were up to me I'd go...

Roy vs. Rampage and Meathead vs. Mo on one side of the bracket.

Mir vs. Fedor and Chael vs. Bader on the other side.

I think their number one priority is keeping Mo and Rampage on different sides of the bracket.

To minimize the chance they ever have to fight again?

Hm that's what I meant when I said it (I was half kidding because the first two fights were so bleh) but for some reason I was thinking they had fought three times already.

But that's hw mma for you.

This is the age of Fight Matrix's top 20 hw: 35, 37, 40, 33, 43, 40, 29, 31, 32, 36, 31, 42, 41, 26, 39, 35, 32, 32, 40, 38

So that's a referendum on the class in mma in general and a product of power aging better than speed. If you think hw MMA is watchable, and you're intrigued by divisional crossovers to provide match-ups we never thought we'd see, this idea is compelling enough for you.

I'm into this.

It's enough of a freakshow but not really an entire freakshow.

Rory wants in on the HW grand prix. Everyone is saying it's because he's Canadian.

If Rory looks passed Lima, Lima's fist is going to go right through him and out the other side.

I assume you know this because he has already started winding up to throw the punch?

Part of a 2-3-2 or a 3-2-3?

That's pretty amazing. 8 big names.

I'd say Mitrione has to be a slight favorite to take it.

And Bader, Fedor, Rampage, and Roy the only non-favorites. No way those dudes can win three fights.

But the other three could equally well take it. Mo and Sonnen aren't afraid to win ugly. But Mo and Sonnen would be given terrible second round match-ups against Mitrione and Mir, respectively.

It's really set-up for Mir and Matt, I feel.

Soemone want to start a thread on this? I think it's well due.

I guess they've got it worked out and some guys may be willing to fight in the next round on a quick turnaround, but one first round fight in each of Jan, Feb, April, and May? Seems like a scheduling nightmare.

The point about ____ not being able to win three fights in a row got me thinking. When is the last time any of these guys won three fights in a row? Not (necessarily) trying to be snarky, was genuinely curious.

Rampage: Mo (5/17/14), Maldonado (4/25/15), Ishii (6/24/16)

Sonnen: Miller (5/23/09), Okami (10/24/09), Marquardt (2/6/10)

Fedor: Rizzo (6/21/12), Singh (12/31/15), Maldonado (6/17/16)

Mir: Crocop (9/25/10), Nelson (5/28/11), Big Nog (12/10/11)

Mitrione (current): Seumanutafa (6/24/16), Thompson (7/16/16), Fedor (6/24/17)

Nelson: Herman (5/26/12), Mitrione (12/15/12), Kongo (4/27/13)

Bader (current): Lil Nog (11/19/16), Davis (6/24/17), Vassell (11/03/17)

Mo: 3 random dudes from 12/29/15 to 12/31/15

Most of them were more recent than I thought. I thought before that Bader and Mitrione were the favorites, and this only cemented that. However, they are on the same side of the bracket, which changes things. I probably take Mitrione straight up if they fight, but I have a harder time seeing him win these three fights in a row than Bader, if that makes sense.

I think I'd honestly still take the alternate, without even knowing who it is.

I agree with this only I would flip Bader for Sonnen. I think Bader is a favorite just slightly ahead of Mo but behind Mitrione who is probably the biggest favorite.

I like the winner of Bader/Mo to go far. I actually think Sonnen can get finished by Fatpage. Speaking of fat, I really hope Mir comes in looking less fat than he did in his last fight. I have a hard time seeing that guy beating anyone at any weight.

Mitrione is just way too long for almost everyone

At least 5 of these dudes are only pharmaceutical hws.

Mir is a top boxing talent in mma. Moves beautiful. Hips and hammers. Back on the pharma, don't sleep on him.

Here's a good article by Breen how modern Bellator's strategy isn't building toward anything, and while we'll all watch some of their events in the interim, soon for them it's going to be #TimesUp.
