Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 3
Wasnt the excuse why Chriss was fat was he was trying to add weight so he could bang with the much larger PF/C's in the league and not get pushed around? I thought they were saying that he gained the weight for that reason and the next step was to convert it to muscle.

Our training staff is too good to spout that sort of nonsense.

Chriss turned 20 last Sunday, but he’s still growing into his body. His early summer work is already paying dividends. After weighing in at 230 pounds as a rookie, Chriss is “almost 250. I’m looking to tone my body up more; just get more in shape. I don’t feel out of shape, but I want to get in mid-season shape right now,” he said.

Right, but getting fat and then working out doesn't do anything but lose weight and add muscle. It doesn't convert anything, that's not how it works, 2 separate things.

They seemed concerned about Chriss' motor.
That's not a good sign.
Should have traded him, #4 and Bledsoe for KP when we had that brief window of opportunity.

It was obvious in summer league. Everybody on the board was posting that Chriss looked chunky and out of shape. That carried over to the preseason as well. Other GMs had to notice it as well as us fans. Its on Chriss to stay in shape ... not McD. Of course I'm worried we have Kemp 2.0 on our team.
LOL I'd welcome a Kemp 2.0. Sure he got fat but he was the second best player on a finals team and a team that was one of the best teams in the league for years. I mean Payton/Kemp was the Nash/Amare of back then in some ways (with a defensive instead of offensive PG). I'm sure many would argue that team was better, being a finals team and all. We were lucky to knock them out in 93. They won 55 or more games 6 consecutive seasons and 61 or more 3x. Though I guess that sixth season was after they traded Kemp for Vin Baker.
He didn't get fat until after the trade though, which he demanded.
So....yeah, I'll take Chriss as Kemp 2.0.

Where was that brief window? I'll tell you, in your room where you dream every night

You can't convert fat to muscle.
Muscle is muscle. Fat is under the skin.
He put on weight, looks more fat and water, but has trimmed down since, playing and training everyday does that.
But if he wants to get muscular, that takes longer...
Honestly though... Chriss's problem is not body.... but lack of IQ and how to use his body (legs) when defending... he uses his arms to play defense and not his lower body, which is how defense is played primarily....

What he's saying is he's put on weight (20lbs) which I can only assume is inclusive of fat. So I'm guessing he put on muscle but also put on fat as part of the process. Now he has to get rid of that excess fat. Totally agree with you though regarding his real problems on the court. Dudley at 32 with zero athleticism but great bball IQ often outplays Chriss which shouldn't happen.

Actually, there are very few 20 year olds in this league who are better than Dudley right now. 20 year olds typically suck, which is why it is pretty incredible that every time I check this thread there are so many who have already written off Bender and Chriss. A ton of current NBA stars would have been removed as "out of the NBA in 3 years" by many of our fans.
Also, this team is not a couple players away from the playoffs unless those players are all stars, but at that point every team is just a couple of players away from the playoffs. If we added the guys most here tend to pine for, like Rubio at PG and I don't know who at Center (maybe Noel?), we are nowhere close to the playoffs.

Chriss has been cultivating mass the past year and it's just a fact that when you pack on mass you sacrifice flexibility.

Truthfully (and I'm prepared for the pitchforks) I'd rather sign Jah to a two year deal and keep Tyson around to mentor him.
I'm all down to start accelerating this rebuild by adding legit stars on fat deals, but not borderline guys like Jordan or injured plagued guys like Blake.
This isn't a 'pitchfork', per se, but why would you want to keep Chandler for 'mentoring'?? Because he did such a great job with Len?? Chandler is about Chandler; that's it. He's not mentoring anyone.
I understand your trepidation about DeAndre, but he IS a legit top 12 starter in the league, and not 'borderline' at all, IMO. Anyone who has led the league 5 years straight in TS% and FG% is not 'borderline'. I'd rather trade for DeAndre, and if we don't get a chance to get Ayton or Bamba (who will both be around 20YO at the Draft), bring in a young guy like Wendall Carter (DOB - 4/16/99...so he'll just have turned 19 at the Draft), who "...has range out to the three-point line and can shoot off the dribble ... Improved as a free throw shooter …Can put the ball on the floor and attack in a straight line."
Let DeAndre have a chance to 'mentor', because honestly, I do not believe Chandler has mentored jack$h!t since being here, with the exception of maybe the payroll lady.

I would do that in a heartbeat! I would have then!
I wish Jayson Tatum would have fallen to us! Booker and Tatum would have been a better future than him and JJ.
What all do you guys think about JJ?

I think it's too early to judge where he will end up. As for what I've seen so far, I'd like to see him a little more in control on offense, and him to improve his shot. I love his energy and defensive intensity though.
On draft night I would have been just as happy as Isaac.

Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 3
I wonder if anyone on this board understands what goes into adding size. Chriss wanted to add muscle because he was too small. Now everyone is complaining that he is out of shape.
Did he add too much size? Maybe No doubt that his endurance and energy has taken a hit.

Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 3
Regarding Chriss...
There are multiple ways of adding muscle and bulking up. A lot of it depends on genetics and of course "jumping on PED's" can help too.
Even if Chriss didn't jump on the PED train (which I doubt he did), then he sure as hell did not follow our trainers advice or stick to a strict diet if he gained THAT much fat and muscle.
It honestly sounds like he put in time in the weight room but also decided to eat at a calorie surplus but scarfed down whatever he wanted. If he had eaten a cleaner diet, then I'm sure he could have added muscle without the fat.
Old school "bulking" really only works for serious body builders and power lifters. "Bulking" is the worst thing you can do as an athlete.
Not only would PED's help with his muscle mass, I bet it would also help his motor.
I'd bet the farm Amare was on the PED train which is why he was more aggressive (and irritable too LOL), but also played with more intensity and was far more "buff".

In a league where shooting is paramount, Ball, Jackson, and Fox were high risk. Fultz and Tatum were the sure bets.
I still think Fox, Jackson, and Ball (in that order) have all-star potential, but all 3 need to seriously fix their shot.
With TJ's 3 very suspect, and with none of our centers being able to shoot, adding Tatum would have been a better fit. I totally agree that a Booker/Tatum 2/3 or 2/4 combo (with TJ at the 3) would have been a better fit in today's NBA.
Way too early to tell for sure, and I love Jackson's motor and intensity. But he's looked pretty bad so far in all honestly. Inconsistent shot, turnover machine, and invisible on the court most times.
