Justin Upton stays with the Angels for 5 years in lieu of an opt-out (signed a new deal). They're probably just going to max out on the vets and see what happens with Trout.

Smart thing to do since their system is ****. They have some cash freeing up to spend on guys. They'd be smart to do so.

Yeah, they have no choice but to spend/overpay for the remainder of Trout’s deal.

Tanaka opting in was a shock.

Also thins the pitching market a bit.

Roy Halladay's personal plane went down. No confirmation as to whether he was the one flying it or not yet.

It's being reported he was piloting the plane.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Department confirmed that a small single-engine aircraft piloted by Halladay was reported down in the Gulf of Mexico earlier Tuesday afternoon.

Halladay recently received his pilot's license and tweeted photos last month of himself standing next to a new ICON A5 plane, which was the model of aircraft that was recovered Tuesday in the Gulf.

Yeah, his twitter is filled with pics and videos of him flying that thing recently - some of which suggested he enjoyed the danger of it. When the report first came out, it was pretty likely it was him.

Terrible news. Always enjoyed watching him pitch - how could you not. Not related, but I can't believe he's been out of baseball 4 years. Flying must be the hobby he took-up. RIP.

TMZ purchased and shared a video from the crash itself. Apparently, Halladay was flying like a **** idiot - all these dangerous maneuvers for a guy who just got his license a year ago. The second video includes the witnesses boating up to the wreckage.

I think they'll drive up the price on Neil Walker and I'd let them have him.

Every manager/coach of the year award is ridiculously biased in favor of teams that "overachieve". God forbid the players get more credit, or the media and pundits admit they were just wrong about the team before the season started.

It was apparently incredibly obvious to the league office as well. They deserve to get hit this hard. In fact Im surprised they didnt lose a first rounder instead of losing the third. Looking back at the past few years of signings it surprising that its taken this long for MLB to go after this sort of behavior. Its probably time for these kids to be eligible for the draft and work that into it like they did with Puerto Rico.

One thing I don't understand is why can't these kids just be eligible for the regular draft?

Derek Jeter just sounds like a **** owner. He essentially threatens his best player that he's going to either trade him or gut the roster around him, and the way he's handled some of his hiring and firing decisions has been puzzling, cruel, or otherwise unprofessional.
