OT: Rogers Considering Sale of Blue Jays

Post#1 » by icoholic » Wed Dec 6, 2017 2:28 pm

I haven't disliked the Rogers ownership of the Blue Jays, this is interesting.

They're going to do this after renaming the stadium to Rogers Center? It should be changed back to Skydome if they sell the Jays.

It will be the Velveeta Centre if that's who pays but it will never officially be the Sky dome again unless Skyzone buys the naming rights.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

The Marlins sold for $1.2bil, I can't imagine the Blue Jays are worth less.. They bought controlling interest for $165mil and the SkyDome for $25mil. They could get a solid return on investment.

Surely Rogers could just sell to MLSE, they keep half control, and Bell takes half control. Then you have the whole city of sports teams under one massive ownership group.

Great. Then we can add more TSN stations to cover the Bell Jays games. Of course this will come at a fee. Don't worry though; you'll still be forced to pay for stations where the NHL games are blacked out every night.

Yeah unless it's sold to someone who comes in demanding taxpayer money for a new stadium and/or renovations and starts to threaten to look at "other situations" in "other cities" after a bloodbath starts with city council. Rogers has pissed me off but atleast we know we have stable ownership with them. Everyone dreams of that single owner who loves the sport and would do anything and spend anything to win a championship but the reality is not a lot of those type of owners are around

Forbes values them at 1.3B. They can probably get closer to 1.5B, maybe more.

You'd be pretty stupid to leave a marketplace this big. What city could you move it to with more potential than Toronto?

Not saying anyone would actually move it, i'm not saying a new (non-canadian) owner wouldn't threaten to move it either given how difficult the rogers centre situation is.

Playoffs twice since '93. Sell.

Never understood why the building rights couldn't have been Rogers Skydome or Scotiabank Raptors Outpost or whatever so the building identity has continuity. The Raps home will now always be the ACC. Might as well call it The Richer Than You Think Home of Air Canada Carter. Then that changes to Google Home of Air Canada Carter. Or Mingles.com Home of Air Canada Carter. Or Vince's Palace brought to you by Payday Loans fking people over since rules allowed loan sharks into the lending market without breaking kneecaps.

Baseball doesn't have a lot of corporate ownership. How many billionaires in Canada want to own a baseball team? Lets start there.

If we get 1 million Canadians to chip in roughly $1000 each, we could be owners!

Does this include the Rogers Centre or just the team?

I hope Rogers sells asap. Terrible owners.
