Kolk, maybe you've done this before, but what's your take on Fultz's catch-and-shoot form from 3 (pre-shouldergate)? Is it promising or does it need major reworking?

Define pre-shouldergate  , because his shot was already a bit different around Summer League.

At Washington I liked his off the dribble shooting better than his catch and shoot mechanics. People must also not forget that Fultz is not a natural shooter, coming into Washington he was a guard with question marks about his shot. His 41.3 3FG% was higher than his mechanics, FT% and reputation would have predicted/suggested. Some of it is probably because of the small sample size and would have regressed with more attempts.

The main problems with his mechanics were his preparation and consistency imo. Off the dribble he could rise up any second and the transition from dribbling to shooting was terrific (hands AND footwork), in catch and shoot situations he often caught the ball then hopped or 1-2'd into his shot and because of that delay he was bothered by the closeout, resulting in an off balance shot (leaning back) or inconsistent set point (at times very close to his head and sometimes further away like he did in SL).

I don't think he'll be a sharpshooter from distance in the near future, but with enough repetition I think he'll be fine, definitely not major reworking necessary if he regains his shooting mechanics from UW.

If Fultz doesn't want to play, we need to look into acquiring a veteran ball handler/scorer off the bench. We're getting nothing from our 2nd unit on a gamely basis and it's costing us losses.

there's zero reason he isnt practicing and playing limited minutes right now if he is 100% symptom free which they have said he is... instead of even saying we will let him practice for a week and then be game ready off the bench, they still had to say no timetable, and that reason in my OPINION is because they know he is still being a mental baby right now and scared

Just because these kids make millions doesn't make them robots.

He literally returned this week from physiotherapy in Kentucky, forcing him to play a couple days after, without playing competitive basketball for 3/4 year is insane. He needs time to get his conditioning on track, get used to playing with his teammates the right way, regain confidence in his shot. I honestly think that January or so is a more realistic time schedule.

there was no reason for him to not keep his conditioning up while rehabbing.. there is nothing stopping him from running.

The excuses for this guy are insane... go read colangelo's full dialogue from last night.... he even mentions on the "surface level" he's doing great

it screams that physically he is fine right now, but that he still isn't ready mentally

say all you want, but to me I see tons of signs that fultz is mentally weak

Relax..

This mental thing is overblown.

Sixers has done a good job making sure their top picks are NBA ready once they step into the court, and I really believe they’re doing just that with Fultz.

I’m not worried at all.

it's gonna be great when we see him matching up against the next magic johnson ( lonzo ball) and the next Jimmy Butler ( josh jackson)....best 2 players of the draft right there.

Get's cut to J.V in high school and end's up the #1 pick in the NBA draft yet I'm suppose to worried he's not mentally strong enough to come back from an injury. Stop it.

Man, i just hope that if Fultz help us win in future those same people who crusify him at EVERY opportunity (and without it) will admit that they were very wrong and praise him AS MUCH, not one time, but like 1000000 times.

It would have been nice... Maybe next year he'll be able to play in public

Anyone get the feeling that BC was kinda putting the kid on blast with those comments more so than giving an update? Seemed to me like Fultz people got him shut down in the first place, so BC coming out and saying he's completely healthy but that there's no timetable feels like he's kinda putting it on them as to when he'll be back.

Or, more likely, I'm just reading way too much into it.

Gonna be lots of ppl goin back to that "watch how they switch sides" post to eat crow if he lights it up :D Im not in the camp thats written him off simply because i havent seen him play "healthy". If he comes back and stinks it up for the rest of the year then ill be on the bust bus. Until then im a homer and believe the kid will eventually be a beast next to ben and embiid

For real, the kid was purposefully shooting like Shaq so that he could play real NBA games despite having significant shoulder pain. Essentially he is doing whatever he can (even though its humiliating on national tv) so that he can be on the bball court trying to help the team instead of resting and healing. Isn't that the definition of mental strength? I mean the kid is obviously stupid or naive (or both), but he definitely has mental strength.

yea its funny, people questioning his mental toughness when he played 4 or 5 games with a bum shoulder because he wanted to help contribute even if it meant shooting free throws like lonzo ball.

Plus he isn’t the everything was handed to him kind of kid either, every report I read about his history is one of him making himself a player. Colangelo is a self serving sort, it’s a family trait, never presume he is doing something because it is intelligent or selfless for the team, it is always about image and self promotion with the Snake and his son, the Worm.

let him move slow, he's taking notes from the 2 future HOFers from the lakers and suns mentioned above. I actually think Jimmy Butler is underselling Josh Jackson....I'm predicting a Kawhi Leonard clone....you agree??

Your still underselling Josh, he's the next Bron.

The way he cheers on the bench really tells me that he is already better than Bron or Jordan.

That's because this ridiculous situation invites that type of speculation. No professional athlete, across all sports. is sidelined indefinitely for an ailment like muscle imbalance. It's highly probable that there are psychological issues at play here. This is not normal. People shouldn't think this is normal.
