If a star player comes on the market, SVG should do everything within reason to try and acquire them. Maybe even go a little past "within reason" to make that deal happen. Imagine this team with Kyrie Irving in place of Reggie. We probably take Boston's spot atop the east with him and Avery Bradley arguably being the best back court in the league. But, SVG couldn't get the deal done.
I agree with most everything you said but SVG & Bowers simply didn't have the ammo to get the deal done. There is no package he could have offered Cleveland to compete with Bostons.
I'd love the Pistons to acquire a star wing like Paul George to fill in the most glaring hole at SF but they haven't positioned themselves with the assets to get it done. Dream about a team with PG13s 2 way abilities and the fact Reggie would be confident to defer to him when the offense slows down rather than forcing things.
If they had drafted better or developed better and Stanley and or Henry looked like they had more upside, we as fans could get excited to speculate about cashing in assets but this current roster has nothing to offer prospective trade partners.
