Is Oladipo having a MIP season?

Post#1 » by boomershadow » Sat Dec 9, 2017 10:45 am

Our team has a history of guys winning this award, and Oladipo has been having a monster year. Way better than even the most optimistic of fans predicted. Is his play sustainable? If he keeps up these type of numbers do you think he has a shot at winning it?

He has a shot, and I think a lot of it depends on how healthy Porzingis is.

If we go to playoffs and NYK not, then yes , Dipo is MIP. P

It might depend on who does the voting. Do the coaches vote? The players? Fans? Sports media?
I really have no idea who does the voting, but I think that may be important.

Media votes on MIP, and I think most of the other end of season awards, but not for all-stars.

MIP has almost invariably been won by the player with the highest increase in PPG, within reason of course. Currently Oladipo is averaging 23.6 ppg, an increase of +7.7 ppg over last season (but only +5.7 ppg over his previous career best). Porzingis is averaging 25.4 ppg, an increase of +7.3 ppg. So by that measure Oladipo currently has an edge, but Porzingis' higher profile might help him win out. Dipo is up there as a candidate though.

* also FWIW, the Pacers weren't a playoff team when Danny Granger won MIP.

Yup, him and Porzingod come first to mind.

I must admit I had given up on him taking his game to the next level. Props to him and luckily for the Pacers :)

I think Kristaps media profile hurts him and oladipo season last year helps him.

Victor is doing all this WHILE also being a really good singer. How can a guy be so talented?

This, of course, is just a fan vote, but the discussion here >> https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1646144 certainly would indicate that he's firmly in contention for the award.

He is definitely a candidate.

Here's a link from a General Board post:

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2017/12/13/16770286/nba-victor-oladipo-indiana-pacers

Good reading.

If I remember right, back at IU the crowd used to chant Ola --- Dipo. can we get that going at BLF?
