Well I still am the optimist that Roy Moore goes down for the count on Tuesday. But even with Doug Jones winning it might be too late to turn the tide in the biggest tax grab for the rich in US history.

If Alabama voters on Tuesday elect Roy Moore to the Senate, the Donald Trump-diseased party once known as the Republicans may as well call themselves Roypublicans.

There will be no way to shake the stench of this homophobic, Islamophobic, sexist, racist apologist and accused pedophile. He is them, and they are him. Any pretense of tolerance and egalitarianism, already damaged by a Republican history of words and deeds, will be completely obliterated.

There will be no way to simply say that Moore is the abominable outgrowth of Alabama voters’ anger.

Friday Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi opens nationwide. It’s about an ethnically-diverse resistance movement fighting for democracy against a tyrannical regime of narcissistic maniacs hellbent on destroying it. So, y’know, total fiction

Trump couldn't hide forever and his sexual misconduct will become even more exposed this week....................he cheered on when democrats were exposed and the Democratic Party took action. I think a turning point came in two ways with him supporting a pedophile in Alabama and the exposure last week in NY State Court last week.

All the Ds have to do is make sure they don't turn a blind eye to sexual harassment within their ranks. Overtime this will expose the Rs if they don't do anything about Moore. Women will continue to slide toward the Ds. There is really nothing moore they need to do...

The government didn't cause the housing price bubble, the market did. It's called "herd behavior" and is a very well known phenomenon in macro economics.

In the aftermath of the Great Recession I asked a government bureaucrat who was in charge of housing regulations why they didn't start citing banks who gave loans where payments were greater than the "1/3 of gross income" rule of thumb (or whatever it is, I forget). And he says "everybody in the market believed the fundamental rules of the housing market had changed."

Those rules were put in place by private sector banks; if memory serves they're not actually enforceable anyway. Those are rules the industry had imposed on itself that were *in their self-interest.* It was the industry that stopped enforcing the rules, not the government.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

I've been thinking about the 2020 presidential race and the potential Dem nominee.

Imo, the nominee needs to be the person who is best equipped to rebuild/replicate the "Obama coalition (Women, millenials, minorities etc)

If you're a Democrat you can't win the presidency without those groups coming out in overwhelming force.

That's the main lesson of 2016 imo.

HRC's perceived "voting base" didn't turn out in sufficient numbers.

And before someone brings up the need to woo Trump voters, I agree...with a caveat.

I'll woo them to an extent but at this point if you're still a true believer in Trump it's probably a waste of time devoting lots of resources.

Let's be honest here: This country is changing demographically and for a certain segment of Trump voters (those are the ones I think of as "deplorable") there's nothing the democratic party can do for them because they view the party as the refuge of gays, "abortionists", brown people etc. Those are the "DEPLORABLES HRC was referring to...and ya know what? She was right.

So with all that being said, the primary objective is to turn out the democratic base and win just enough independents.

THAT'S what the nominee needs to be capable of doing.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Watch this.

Even if I initially thought about giving Trump a chance his appointment of Jeff Sessions told me all I needed to know....

Yeah agreed - if Trump is running - don't recruit Trump supporters. Just get out the vote and the never Trumpers and that will be that...

I worry that the Ds will end up running another populist - but that's just me.

And1 for the Starwars reference. It’s hilarious to me that the MAGA people and Alt right don’t realize that they are the Empire lol. Democrats need to hang the albatross of Roy Moore around every Senate and House race from 2018 and 2020 on. Even if certain Republicans didn’t support Roy Moore Democrats need to make the Republicans pay for their moral cowardice.
