When they showed people sitting in the New seats of the arena during the game last night it didn't look like they had much more room than the BC seats. This concerns me.

The closest I can estimate from the scant public info available is the new arena's lower bowl will have one inch more tread depth (34.5") and the uppermost level two inches more (33.5") than the BC. One Mortenson infographic of the concrete risers from shows a 34" tread depth [ http://www.mortenson.com/~/media/images/projects/milwaukee/bucks%20arena/arena%20steel%20fun%20facts%20rev%2083017.ashx ].
I wish either the team, contractor or architect would soon make this data available - it should be a selling point.

Two finalists in line to name Milwaukee Bucks’ new arena

By John Lombardo, Staff Writer

Published December 11, 2017, Page 4
After 18 months in the market, the Milwaukee Bucks have narrowed their arena naming-rights efforts down to two suitors and expect a deal by early 2018, team officials said. “We’ve got two very viable finalists and we are trying to get it down to a final understanding...

This is actually very interesting.

I will say, while the product on the court has been a disaster at times, the business side of things have been major pluses.

We are getting a top notch arena, the practice court is incredible, the new corporate office. Overall the new branding is a success, bringing in good people like Suki.

And now this guy seems to be one of the top guys in the business. I love how he said he's not about just opening an arena on day 1 and that's the goal, but about how it looks in 2028. They have a vision and a road map, and they seem to really know what they are doing in terms of making this a real destination and very useful entertainment district. Also the idea of bringing in enough events & entertainment to attract Fib $$$. We will have to wait and see, but this guy's resume and experience look impressive.

http://ampthemag.com/the-real/long-read-qa-milwaukee-bucks-raj-saha/

The Milwaukee Bucks’ Raj Saha is currently a GM without a building, but the situation isn’t close to a first for the industry veteran. Saha has taken part in the developing and opening of 10 venues over three continents throughout his substantial career.

Saha was born in London and raised in New York City. His mother was American and his father was from India, giving him a global upbringing that has made him the perfect person for traveling the world to bring new arenas to life.

“Both my parents were involved in the travel agency business,” Saha told Amplify. “So growing up I had the very fortunate experience of going to Helsinki, Finland on summer vacation at 12 years old. While everyone I was going to school with was talking about their summers at the Jersey Shore, I was talking about coming back from Mykonos and Athens. That’s where I caught the travel bug.”

Saha has worked at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall in New York, O2 Arena in London, and Toyota Park Stadium in Illinois. He has helped operate and open facilities in Istanbul, Stockholm, and Sao Paulo, Brazil amongst others.

“I’ve never been smart enough not to raise my hand for things. That’s probably why I ended up in Turkey and Brazil,” Saha said. “It’s been a great experience and I love getting uncomfortable in your skin. I love going to places where you have the knowledge of how to run a building and how to do events, but you’re doing it in a language you don’t understand.”

A lot more at the link.

How did you end up in Milwaukee?

I was doing the often replicated commute between London and Sao Paulo, Brazil because AEG was involved in four stadiums there. In 2012, I spent 75 nights in my own bed. The reason it was that high was because we had the Olympics going on in London. I made the decision that I wanted to be based in South America and went down and headed up the local AEG office for Brazil. Peter Feigin who is our team president convinced me that Milwaukee is indigenous language for Rio De Janeiro of the midwest, so I ended up with the Bucks.

Peter Feign is a better salesman that I could have ever imagined.

Yes, yes I get it, the actual meaning of both cities, but only Peter could find a way to compare Rio to Milwaukee and find some similarities.

Edit: I wonder if that's why he took the naming rights Internationally. Maybe he's talking to Alibaba in China and and telling them, "You get your name on our Arena, it will be amazing! Milwaukee is the Rio of the Midwest!!" :D

https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2017/12/12/bucks-entertainment-block-wont-open-until-spring.html

The first tenants on the entertainment block adjacent to the new Milwaukee Bucks arena won’t open until spring 2019 and the Bucks’ development arm probably won’t sign tenants until early 2018.

A Tuesday update from the team's senior vice president Alex Lasry represents an acknowledgment the new tenants won’t be ready when the arena opens in September 2018. Previously, Bucks executives remained hopeful that at least one tenant would be open by then.

Bucks executives hope to complete primary construction by fall 2018 on the first two buildings of the entertainment block along a public plaza on what is now North Fourth Street, Lasry said in an interview with the Milwaukee Business Journal. However, the tenants will then need to construct the improvements necessary for their businesses, resulting in a hoped-for spring 2019 opening.

Based on a spring 2019 time frame, it’s possible tenants could be up and running late in the Bucks 2018-2019 season. The NBA regular season ends in April, followed by playoffs that can last until June.

First, the Bucks need to wrap up the first tenant signings for the first two buildings on the entertainment block. Lasry said he believes the first signings will happen in January 2018 but “might bleed into February.”

There is no shortage of prospects, he said.

“We’re starting to get close; we’re trying to pick the right ones,” Lasry said. “There are a lot of incoming (prospects). We want to find the right partners and make them unique to Wisconsin and Milwaukee.”

Local and national tenants remain in the mix for the entertainment block, Lasry said. They likely will include bars and restaurants that will appeal to a diverse consumer base, he said.

“There will be a nice string of announcements after the New Year,” Lasry said.

Lasry’s remarks Tuesday run counter to previous statements by some members of the Bucks front office. It's worth noting he telegraphed as early as April that the first establishments on the entertainment block might not open by the time the new arena debuts to the public.

Team president Peter Feigin has been promising tenant announcements this fall or by year-end. Bucks co-owner Mike Fascitelli told the Business Journal Sept. 25 the team already signed two letters of intent for the entertainment block.

Lasry told members of the Milwaukee Common Council’s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee Tuesday that the team is “hoping to get a letter-of-intent soon” for the entertainment block.

The committee approved minor modifications for the Bucks plans on one of the first two structures on the entertainment block.

The Bucks modified their previous plan for a four-story structure with as many as four tenants to a two-story building with two tenants. The square footage of the building at West Juneau Avenue at North Fourth Street decreased to 26,130 square feet from the previously planned 53,950 square feet, according to revisions the Bucks submitted to the city of Milwaukee.

Lasry told the committee the Bucks are not downsizing the number of tenants the team’s development arm Head of the Herd LLC anticipates on the entertainment block.

“We are not lowering the amount of floors in the building because of potential tenant interest,” Lasry said. “We actually have robust interest in the building and we’re getting close to signing tenants for it.”

The zinc panels look so much better in person/pictures than they did in the renderings.

This is very frustrating to me. The league mandates we build a new arena or we relocate. We abide, in a relatively easy fashion, and they show us no love for the second year in a row (Chicago was awarded year). We're putting up a brand new, state-of-the-art building and we can't get an all-star game years down the road?

And don't tell me the city cannot handle an event like the all-star game. That's just not true. If you want proof, watch in September when we host the Harley 115th.

I only go to Whole foods for proteins that I cant get at Aldi like Lamb and Duck. I work in seafood so I dont need to get theirs and there is the most absurd cheese shop right down the block from me, but I actually would like the Aldi Center. Or Aldi Arena.

I love Aldi. I used to be skeeved out by their produce on some of their proteins, but it's honestly pretty damn good. Granted I've only ever gotten chicken from there, but no complaints whatsoever and all of the apples I buy from there are better than ones I get at Pick N' Save half the time.

The key to aldi is being flexible, sometimes the produce isnt the best so you skip it that week. Also go on sundays and wednesdays early if possible its when their shipments come in i think atleast at my location. Some of the stuff they get in is great some of it crap just gotta try it to find out sometimes.

Aldi is owned by the same company that owns Trader Joe's, FWIW. Sometimes, you'll find Trader Joe's stuff at Aldi at a steep discount.

Um, they cut the size of that building in half and it isn't due to lack of interest? bull.

Kind of they are different companies but an offshoot of the same original idea. Trader joes IMO is a big ripoff always found their stuff low quality and going to one around here is like the **** hunger games people just go ****.

The NBA told the Bucks once that area is fully developed and (probably most importantly) they get another 5 star hotel then they will give MKE a good chance. It'll come eventually if they new arena and district is a hit AND they get a top notch hotel.

A very succinct telling of my exact thoughts.

Either that or they are just going really cheap on their end of the bargain to minimize their risk/exposure.

Probably both.

Well didn't the Brewers get an all-star game when they opened Miller Park? I am sure we will get one eventually.
