Why would they buyout Mozgov before the offseason? And even then, why do it before they have a good use of the extra cap room? The longer they wait, the less time in the future he's still on the cap. Unless I'm missing something?

especially if he's as productive on the court as he's been.

I bet Mozgov buyout is the next move. Joe Harris will be a hot name until the trade deadline.

No way is the Mozgawd bought out this season, unless he agrees on something crazy regarding his guaranteed money for next season, limited to what's allowed under the current CBA.

Next year around deadline will be a totally different animal though, if his expiring salary isn't needed.

we dont have the cap space... and without booker we no longer have the expiring salary to really make that work

Boston has Memphis' pick starting in 2019 with light protection, which gets lighter each year and eventually unprotected, they can't trade a pick for awhile.

I was wondering the other day if we wind up doing something like Mozgod and Lin for Parsons and a couple 2nds. Maybe the best of Miami's, Charlotte's, Memphis' or Phoenix's '18 and Memphis' '19.

Don't think it makes a lot of sense for us, but it is another one of those Markinson gamble for a couple picks deals.

I think this just creates an even bigger glut at the wing position

Don't entirely disagree, certainly thought about this. But... but... right now there's an even bigger glut at the 5, with 2 young guys who NEED minutes and as long as he can actually take the court, Parsons can play steady minutes at the 4, where now we're suddenly thin aside from the incumbent starter, Hollis RJ. In fact, those 2 would make a very dynamic duo at the 4, and the 3 figuring both are proper tweeners. Then you add in a couple high 2nd's? It's no lock... in fact it's FAR from it... on both sides... but it's very Marksy.

Parsons + Rabb + second round pick for Mozgov + Stauskas it would be a great trade for us...

Parsons unfortunately have injury problems, but he's a fantastic player.

He can be play both SF and PF, coming off the bench to play with Carroll or with Rondae.

This is a bet that would cost us 20 million over three years. Not that bad.

But I'm not sure Grizzlies would trade him for another bad contract

I expect the remaining flexibility is going to be mostly saved for a big acquisition in the 2019 offseason when Lin + Caroll expire and Mozgov + Crabbe become expirings.

This year was about evaluating and developing the young core of DLo, Levert, Allen, and RHJ. Dinwiddie and Crabbe are probably in that group too. Maybe Okafor pushes his way in. Next year is going to be more about those guys taking the next step and adding more talented rookies than giving Booker/Carroll/Lin types on multi-year deals.

Obviously if an unexpected opportunity arises to sign someone unexpected in RFA or UFA i'm sure they will look into it. Or if Washington pulls a Portland and regrets matching Porter and looks to dump. But not a lot of young impact candidates out there.

Mozgov is a killer contract but I say hang onto him until he expires. Don't need to continually take on bad salary 3 years from now. And in 3 years we'll have a great core and out of the darkness of Billy King

Between Dinwiddie & Harris, my guess is that the Nets should be able to land an asset similar in value to a first either by the trade deadline or draft night. Whether that's a current pick, a solid young player, like Will Barton, or a future pick, remains to be seen.

Not much. Maybe a second rounder.

If the Cavs said the nets could have their pick back but they'd have to give up the raptors pick dinwiddie and Allen and. A future top 5 protected pick would you do it

I know the salaries don't match but as of now the pick is 11

It's an interesting question but I'd probably pass. I genuinely don't think the Nets are a bottom 5 team in the league, if they have to give jobs first round pick eventually they might as well get it over as soon as possible so they can finally put the ghost of Billy King to rest and swear on all that they care for that they will never trade a first round pick again.

How about Dinwiddie, Allen Crabbe, Jarrett Allen, for Steven Adams

Nope. Allen could become better than Adams long term, why give up that piece you know?

Allen has upside that screams elite big man.

I know the salaries don't match but as of now the pick is 11

So Nets get:
- pick 7-12

Cavs get:
- pick 25
- future pick
- best backup pg in the league
- future lobs and blocks starting centre

Ah, no.

Adding Dinwiddie is too much. Adams is who you want Allen to be long term so I have no problem swapping those 2 and gettings Crabbe’s contract off our books and replacing it with Adams who fills a much needed position and at 24 is in the sweet spot of our timeline, would be awesome. They can have the Raptors pick instead of Dinwiddie, throw in a future 2nd if they want (that Indy 2nd is looking less valuable by the day). But I can’t see OKC pulling the trigger on that.

thats the thing youre eventually going to trade a first round pick again

if for example the pelicans say hey heres anthony davis but you have to give up picks youre going to say no because the previous gm miscalculated how bad deron williams would be

The difference is that's for a guaranteed superstar - in your scenario with the Nets only getting a pick around #11 overall history has shown that players drafted around then are often no better prospects than what Jarrett Allen has shown to be:

They aren't going to start trading futures until this team is further along. Way too much unknown at this point. Keep developing the kids we have, keep searching for reclamation projects like Okafor/Russell, keep an eye out for the next Dinwiddie/Harris in the G-League. Get to the point where we possess our own picks and see what's what.

The only deal I think will definitely happen this year will be Joe Harris getting shipped off to a contender. Bobby Marks actually mentioned it in his trade deadline preview today.

Brooklyn Nets

What to watch

The value for Joe Harris: The former second-round pick is having a career season and will be an unrestricted free agent in July. If Brooklyn is looking to optimize Harris' trade value, the window is now. If they hold onto him past Feb. 8, the Nets will either have to sign Harris to a contract that starts in the $5-6 million range or lose him for nothing.

Expect the Nets to receive a good second-round pick if Harris is moved.

Restrictions/notes

The Nets still have $3.7 million in cap space available.

I'm sure they will be willing to entertain conversations around all of the vets (Carroll, Lin, Mozgov) but Carroll is the only one who has any value and it's probably not much.

I think id put harris value in the category of bogs and Crabbe. Crabbe last year was a bit more productive then harris now, although not by much and on a huge contract. bogs more production/worse shooting but only 4-5 million more not 18 million more. i think harris value is probably worth more then both due to contract.

im thinking... harris might allow us to dump a bad contract in the 8-10m range but we dont have one of those. certainly he doesnt get it done moving mozgod.

bogs got a first in the20s while having us have to also eat nicholson. im thinking harris gets a pick in the 25-35 are or maybe slightly better and us eating a semi bad deal in the 3-5m range?

I still think Crabbe is the better player than Harris BUT from a contract standpoint I think the Nets should be looking to deal Crabbe+Dinwiddie which can attain us a pretty productive player. We can then resign Joe Harris into a reasonable contract.

i love Dinwiddie as a player but LeVert is looking so good out there and I think he has way more upside than DinDin. I'd like to give him a bigger role in the bench for us and gradually give him the starting PG spot with D-Lo playing SG. We also need to start thinking of players that we can add into our 3/4.

Maybe Otto porter?

Crabbe, Dindin, and Nik

Return to Brooklyn Nets
