Woj - Paul George very unlikely to resign with OKC - Detroit???

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Dec 13, 2017 4:49 pm

As OKC continues to struggle, George trades will continue to make headlines as we near the deadline. There was a time I thought he'd be the ideal player in our starting lineup with Dre Harris Bradley & Reggie but not I'm not so sure that he elevates us to compete in the East. The other thing to keep in mind is that unless we win the East, he also is very unlikely to want to stay in Detroit either.

#1 Should OKC move him before the deadline?

#2 Should SVG look to make a trade to bring him in, even if it might only be a 35 or 40 game rental?

Damn saw woj in the title and thought there was an actual rumor. But no, PG is headed to LA. That’s been clear for 2 years now. No reason to give up anything for a rental.

#1 - yes. Get whatever you can for a guy who seems intent on leaving.
#2 - no. He's not resigning here and we aren't winning a championship this year. If OKC is just giving him away, then obviously you take him, but you shouldn't give up long term assets for a likely short term rental.

Yes. Give up our "assets" cause we sadly really don't have any. Luke being our biggest asset then our #1 pick then Ellenson and stanley. Not really caring about any of them especially when we have to move Leuer with them as well.

Worst case scenario him and George don't re-sign and we start a full rebuild like everyone wants anyways

From OKCs perspective, Westbrook almost seemed better suited to play with less ball dominant players that will defend, shoot, and rebound. Its almost like how Iverson and the Sixers were much better after getting rid of Stackhouse and getting Theo Ratliff from Detroit because he just fit better with a very ball dominant high usage player like Iverson.

We need to take a chance at this point and I would go for it.

Get Paul George!

Let's see where the move will take this team this season.

something like Leuer, Stanley, and Henry should work. Essentially its giving up Stanley to get rid of Leuer's contract. Henry sucks so I don't consider him an asset.

If we can get him for salary filler (Leuer, Ish, and/or Boban) + guys like Stanley or Ellenson, I do it in a heartbeat.

Drummond / Tobias / George / Bradley / Reggie could be a pretty interesting lineup and you never know how things work, if he's "the guy", we push to the ECF and look tough against the Cavs and we can offer the most money in the summer, you never know what happens.

Only way we could get him is in a trade. And, we don't have anything OKC would likely want.

Even so, we'd be getting a rental and seeing him leave for LA in the summer. So, how much is 2 months of Paul George worth to you?

Honestly feels like the players OKC would covet most would be Dre or Bradley... neither of those guys need the ball in their hands on offense to be effective. Adams also has a huge contract and while he has been a solid C for them he's still overpaid so I could see their appeal to swap Adams for Dre in a George deal. Bradley might be the ideal backcourt pair to go with Westbrook.

Leuer would be a better fit with Westbrook. PG is more effective with the ball in his hands, which might explain why OKC sux so much this year. And we are going to have to start paying Stanley a lot of money. So if Stanley, Ellenson and Leuer got us PG, I'd do it.

Leuer's contract is horrible. No one wants that. And Stanley and Ellenson are terrible sweetener. Bottom line - Pistons are a pretty lousy trade partner at the moment.

I'd gladly give them a lottery protected 1st.

Given the track record of 3 drafts without a glimpse of a legit starter, I'm not sure we need a non-lottery draft pick unless you subscribe to the theory "we're due" to hit on a pick.

RJ and PG are really good friends. I'd make a move for a 1 year rental, fact is we aren't contending with this team no matter how well HE & SJ develop. AB is going to want a lot of money . This would represent our best window to contend imo

I also maybe just panicking

It isn’t a one year rental; it would be just over a half season rental if it happened tomorrow.

That’s the problem with being an “on the cusp” team needing a star; other teams are going to stick it in good.

To some degree, George is exactly what we need... our offense tends to stagnate and we don't really have a go to guy. Tobias is the closest thing but he too disappears at times and doesn't really have the ISO game you can go to when you really need a bucket.

That said, you don't want to mortgage the future giving up unprotected 1st round picks for someone like PG because you don't know if he is going to come in with an open mind and play for us or if he would come in just looking at us as a temporary stop on his way to LA. He's someone you go after if you can buy low but you can't give up too much for him.

Exactly. This team is not in the position to give up the world for PG because as it has become abundantly clear, while this team can beat anyone when they’re rolling, when they suck THEY EFFING SUCK. Paul George can not overcome that level of suck.
