We don't know that he's hurting his kid's futures. Lonzo just made it to the league as a #2 overall pick lol... Not sure you can blame him or his antics for his son stealing stuff in China. Joe Jackson parents abused his kids lol.. This is a stretch. Ball is just obnoxious at times, and a loudmouth. He's also proven to be an excellent father.
Anywho, on Knicks stuff, the way Frank looked early in the season I'm still a little apprehensive, but I'm hoping to see a game where he really explodes offensively.
America is very uncomfortable with the image of the overbearing Black sports dad. I like the guy. He’s actually harmless and his kids love and appreciate him. He’s a loudmouth. Doesn’t make him a bad father or person.
And judging from the results he’s actually a pretty good father.
I'm guessing you aren't a parent.
The guy comes across as a loud-mouthed, arrogant dummy. I'm sure his being black doesn't help but he is a jerk on his own. As for hurting his own kids, I guess we will see but I feel confident that Lonzo would be having a lot more fun if he didn't have daddy calling him "the greatest Laker ever" or that "he would beat MJ one-on-one in his prime" when he arguably isn't the best rookie on his own team. The Lakers have asked LaVar to shut up to take some of the pressure off his son which he has not done.
He is also financially hurting his son. Lonzo's shoe deal (based on estimated sales) is worth around 1/2 mil this season. Any of the major shoe companies would have paid him $15 million for a multi-year deal. There has been some chatter that Lonzo might not stick with the Lakers long-term if his dad can't shut his mouth which would also hurt his wallet.
I'd like to see evidence that he is an excellent father. He clearly is an involved parent. I will give him credit for that. But it seems like he is the only one allowed to talk at the dinner table.
I am a parent, and if there's one rule I've learned, especially as a non custodial parent, it's that you have to be there. You learn and figure out a lot of things as you go along, but you have to be present. Lavar is active and present, almost too much so, in his children's lives. His kids stand by him 1000% by all accounts. Your guess as far as his level of fun is a moot point. The Lakers have asked him simply not to criticize Luke publicly, that's it. Again, some of you are reaching simply because you don't like the guy.
His shoe deal for $15 million could end being pennies if he's able to get BBB off the ground. That's the risk ANY entrepreneur takes in going into business for him/herself. It's also how the majority of wealthy people have gotten wealthy. Lavar is teaching his sons not to simply be pawns or employees, again an excellent lesson a father should be teaching his sons. I personally support him in his endeavors.
Lastly, once again, the evidence of his abilities as a parent are clear as day. He's been their coach as well as their father, and his first son is a #2 overall pick, his second son isn't on the list as a top tier prospect, but his third son is currently ranked as the #7 prospect for his class. Making the NBA is literally a 1 in a million shot, and he's on pace to get 2 out of 3 sons there. He's already surpassed ALL expectations in that regard.
Being obnoxious or the only one to talk at the dinner table aren't good enough reasons to deny what his own children say about him as well as their current levels of success.
