The Second verse should have been "You ARE a racist" imo. That's where I was expecting the song to go. Instead it was like a "for dummies" book about unresearched racial talking points being sold as a deeper discussion.

We know dude is a racist. That’s the entire premise.

Cold hard facts were supposed to be laid out. Problem? Whites won’t digest it comfortably. This is a buzz song at the end of the day. Can’t offend potential buyers....and that’s not Black people. Not this **** at least.

We know, but the "I'm not a racist" rationalization isn't actually addressed in a way that the "I have black friends" heads will catch it. Cold hard facts + replacing the second verse's "I'm not a racist" with "You are a racist" switches the idea from "we all say racist things and then claim not to be a racist" to "these cats don't get to make that claim while making statements like these." The premise is a false equivalence.

Good concept, but execution...idk, not as hype about it as a lot of people are. The two things I keep coming back to are what it sounds like if you're not watching the video and then is there a clear stance or message? Feels to me (call me a snob that's fine) like a lot of talking points without much actual insight. Just to back that up, I have some old HS acquaintances that three memes away from full-on alt-right who were sharing and liking this ish and I don't imagine them relating to or even really hearing the second verse.

yeah i agree good concept with a iffy execution. I just like the message trying to be sent out even if its not viewed 100 percent accurate.

I don’t even like the concept. It’s flawed. Really flawed. You have two perspectives:

The racist “red neck” telling blacks about themselves

and

The “thug” trying to explain themselves..
WTF?

Where’s the actual history lesson to show cause and effect? That second verse was shameful as a black listening to that nonsense.

Thats the point of the song the typical stereotype of both races. I dont think he was a thug either but he was more sensible and i feel that was intended. The whole point of the song was to open the gate for communication between both races to better understand each other.

Just gave the East tape a listen. I'm a little disappointed in it. I know it was just supposed to be a fun little Holiday mixtape but his flow is tired on this one. The songs he actually tried to change things up were pretty interesting actually, but the rest was very repetitive and usually I don't mind East just spittin but for whatever reason this tape didn't connect with me like his other joints did. Who knows? Maybe I was just in a bad mood today but I expect more from East honestly.

I hope his album (whenever it comes out) brings a little more variety to the table because I think East moreso than anybody else has the ability to put NY back on the mainstream map because of his versatility and ability to rap on non boom-bap beats while still sounding like he's from the city.
