Why would the Rangers do that?
jackson turnbow gwynn 4 dye
Lose bullpen depth for a free agent to be having a bad year. Why would we do that?

No, this season is not make it or break it. Keep this young core in tact and this team will be in contention for the next 5 years

Melvin wouldn't trade gwynn for gagne.....

If he had that offer he would have pulled the trigger in a heart beat.
Cincy has no real need for TGJ thats why they wouldn't do it. I think they are pretty happy with having Ryan Freel. They also have two young CF's in josh hamilton and norris hopper. Why would they ever want another CF who can't even hit?

It's stupid to make all these assumptions. We should have traded...blah blah blah...
No one knows what was offered, no one knows what was discussed.
You make all of these one sided trade proposals and say they should have happened. I'm sure Melvin would love for them to have happened. Too bad it takes two teams to make a trade.

This team as it currently is won't make the playoffs....depends what the goal of the organization is..I know Mark A. wants to win now...I believe Melvin's goal was next year, the problem is that next year never comes....this may be the weakest the Central division will ever be...and it appears the Brewers are not serious about making a run....maybe filling the seats is good enough.

And again what exactly do you want them to do? You need to make trades so make one that both teams would accept. Remember though we're trying to make the playoffs and everyone on our major league roster is either not worth much (Miller, Counsell, Graffanino etc.) or untouchable (Braun, Fielder, Hardy etc.)

Sounds like your answer is just to lose? You have got to be coming to the realization this team is closer to average the way they are currently made up then they are to making playoffs....simply to many holes. The answer might be that simple, they are just not ready for prime time or to compete for a championship....if thats the case I sure wish they would have kept Inman rather then deal him for a fading relief pitcher who will be gone at the end of the year.

No my answer is not to lose but you STILL haven't given me an answer as to what moves you would've made that would be fair for both teams involved.
I think next year is when this team really takes off though. The infield has another year, Gallardo and Villanueva should be in the rotation, we'll have money to spend or re-sign our own players etc.

I am not the GM, not sure who was available, what other teams were asking for, or what the Brewers were willing to do......if you can tell me what Melvin was trying to sell or what was being offered I would gladly say whether I would have made that deal......if Melvin wasn't offering Gwynn I would be angry because Gwynn will never be anything but a 4th outfielder....I also would have traded Turnbow if there was value to have in return...this is the second straight year Turnbow has been aweful in the second half of the year....until I know what some of the offers were why would I comment on hypotheticals?
So you are one of the true believers in next year....the problem as I said earlier next year never comes....the Brwers have been relatively major injury free with the exception of there so-called stopper who has now had his 3rd major injury since signing his big deal. I see the Cubs being extremely good again next year plus I have serious doubts Houston and St. Louis will remain the mess they currently are. I really like alot of these young players on the Brewers but we know all won't turn out, thats becoming obvious, so always waiting until next year is just not always smart. If the Brewers weren't going to make a big deal, as I said earlier, I wish they would not have wasted 1 excellent pitching prospect and 2 very good ones on a washed up Linebrink.

Okay so you basically know what was out there. Gagne, Linebrink, Morris, Teixiera, Dotel, Dye etc.
We had no chance at Teixiera it took 4 prospects (3 top 100 prospects) to get him.
The Red Sox were able to put together a better offer than us for Gagne.
Matt Morris isn't any good so would you want him?
We got Linebrink so did we need Dotel?
Dye is having a bad year and isn't an upgrade over the Menchkins platoon so why would need him?

It all comes back to budget......teams like the Red Sox can go out and overpay for Gagne (if you think they did) because they can replace those players they traded with a couple mammoth FA signings this off-season.....or take on some major contracts like they did in that Marlins trade.
The window for the Brewers is still open this year....they've got to get through it.....
Sheets has to prove he's a leader and get his ass back pitching.....they've got to ease up on the hyper concern on pitch counts and get Gallardo into the rotation for good, going 7 innings a night if he's on.....

So they give him a better chance of getting hurt? Have we learned nothing from the team 90 miles south and their young arms?

The Cubs have how large a payroll? Their "window" is infinite. This year might be our best shot at it. Besides, I think that is a fluke with those two dudes. Dwight Gooden and Clemens didn't have those problems working long innings as youngsters......
Having Gallardo move into the rotation full time and pitch 15-20 more pitches isn't going to ruin him IMO......
