I’m hoping that he is seeing that we need him to sometimes take over at the end of games to pull out a win. He was part of the reason why we went to OT last night and the Wolves game. I just chalk it up to him being a rookie and learning this year.

We all know he can do it and have seen him be aggressive at times but he probably just needs time and confidence to. I’ll be fine if he shows baby steps along the way.

Ben is still a rookie and he played elite defense last night. He does just about everything well but he can’t only shoot 1 time in 15 minutes of OT. That’s like playing 4 on 5 on offense. I don’t care if 4 players are packed in the paint. He needs to shoot.

That’s not his game yet, I think it all comes down to his confidence. Maybe Brett should draw up plays for him to shoot the ball even if he doesn’t make it. He just needs to be push to shoot more, I know everyone would like to see him shoot more instead of the team jacking up 30+ 3s per game.

Starting to worry about him. I think Scott Brooks got to his head that one game. I just hope he isn't a six foot 10 Ricky Rubio.

No he didn’t. This narrative is played out. Ben just needs to look for his shot more.

Lol, Ricky Rubio is a basketball genius, if he were 6'10 with Simmons athleticism and strength then he is easily in GOAT contention. That is how good Simmons could be, I can see all time greatness.

Actually a big problem with Rubio game is he is too smart for his own good. He takes a ton crafty off balance shots and sometimes like the Celts game they go in but often they don't. If he just stuck to open looks he'd be so more useful on the offensive end.

Not if he can't shoot. Teams are starting to figure out how to play I think.

But shooting is overrated, just look at what Giannis is doing without a good shot. What happens here is people is stuck into this "new era" BS narrative, where "your PG has to be able to shoot". With how talented Simmons is, he doesn't need to be able to shoot, instead he needs to focus on passing the ball and playing with intensity and making winning plays, then he will score when the chance is there, he is just a rookie learning the game, he will be fine.

i dont know why ben stops taking mid range shots unlike during the few first games of the season.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

He's not even trying to drive anymore and finish at The Rim. It's getting to be alarming.

Giannis can certainly shoot a lot better than Ben Simmons come on now you know better than that

He probably just wants to give Mitchell and Kuzma false hope before he crushes their soul and steamrolls to the RoY in the second half.

If Ben keeps on playing like this he's not going to be Rookie of the Year

I mean, he's still crushing all the rookies in advanced metrics. If he plateaus for the year and stays at this level, he'll probably still win the award by a landslide.

Without a doubt he has regressed as an offensive threat. I agree that ever since the hacking incident he seems more reluctant to drive and has given away any attempts at jump shots. We all say, he needs to go away in the off season and develop a jumper. Like he has never thought of that before!

The ESPN focus on the Sixers highlighted that Simmons has been groomed to be a NBA player since he was old enough to pick up a ball. He is 21. He would have worked on his shot relentlessly every time he stepped onto a court. To get to this ordinary level. One off -season ain’t going to change it.
I hope I’m wrong.

7 games leading up to the Washington game
Minutes per game 37
Drives per game: 19.7, 8.2 fga
Free throws attempted per game: 3.1

Since the Washington game
Minutes per game: 40
Drives per game: 18.8, 8.0
Free throws attempted per game: 3.0

He is attacking slightly less, in slightly more minutes, but not so much that it should be assumed that it's just because of that game or mental. Could just be a stretch of games. He's attempting essentially the same number of free throw attempts per game on less fg attempts too. Perhaps playing 40 mpg in the 8 games since is fatiguing him? That's a lot for a rookie that just missed a season.

EDIT:
Speaking of fatigue, here are his drives by game since Washington

Boston: 24 drives
Detroit: 14
Suns: 24
Lakers: 19
Cavs: 22
Pelicans: 23
Timberwolves: 11
Thunder: 13

Also, just so people recall, McConnell got injured in that Wizards game. We haven't really had a back-up PG since then.

Perhaps Simmons isn't driving or creating so much contact because he doesn't want to commit offensive fouls? That seems like another plausible reason to me.

Ben is still ROY but if Ben continues to scores 12 point bye or fewer and Mitchell plays at his current level he will win ROY.

In this two week span you all are talking about, Ben's averaged like 16.2 ppg--and on the season he's at 17.3ppg. So you might be exaggerating panic. Mitchell had a 12pt 4-18fg game last week, it's not like he's been averaging an efficient 20ppg every night. Rookies are inconsistent, Ben's still finding his game, don't forget the good games while you're watching the less impressive ones.

(Also who gaf about rookie of the year? We need Ben to help us win now and keep growing year after year.)
