Looking to improve the weakest link

Post#1 » by DoItALL9 » Sat Dec 16, 2017 6:02 am

Brooklyn Nets trade Timofey Mozgov back to the LA Lakers for Luol Deng

Mozgov is out of the rotation and doesn't look to be coming back anytime soon plus I haven't gotten the notion from the front office that he's itching to get major minutes thru being the hardest worker etc. The Nets also just picked up Jahlil Okafor at C. Is Mozgov the 4th center?

-For Brooklyn, Luol Deng allegedly is hungry to play and earn the playing time. He could fit in Brooklyn's system better than Mozgov. Mozgov currently gives them nothing and Deng only costs $2M more per year. It'd seem you'd get more value in his $17M than you're currently getting from Mozgov's $15M.
-For LA, they could save $2M in this dead money situation in case they have to waive &or stretch Mozgov for free agency pursuits. Deng isn't in the rotation so they wouldn't be losing anything on the floor. (maybe veteran leadership/mentor off the floor)

A top 45 protected draft pick would be the most I would think either team would be willing to offer for balancing purposes.

Why would we want Deng? Every wing player that we have on the team is better than him and younger. No thanks

yeah thats a pretty giant fast hell no from me...

why are we going to add 2.8 million a year to an already tricky cap situation to get someone we dont need in an already log jammed win situation?

-this isnt a win now team
-deng wouldnt help all that much anyhow
-increases our cap

id need a first rounder to make that move or you would have to take on Lin

Any argument for keeping Mozgov?

Lin wouldn't be terrible to pickup for LA but the salaries would have to match so something else would have to be included, Jordan Clarkson?

None at all. But I see no reason to swap him for a player making more money and just as useless.

If you believe he can only be useless then I understand your view but I think Deng could improve from what he's been with the Lakers under Marks/Atkinson. I think he could still be what he was in Miami or some other kind of asset in Brooklyn's system as a team first guy.

Just another idea... Move Jeremy Lin for Tyler Johnson once his contract increases after this season ends

Not unless I'm getting a first round pick and Winslow.

Winslow would be reasonable but not in addition to a FRP

you want me to trade a veteran PG who can play PnR, wit an expiring contract that helps their cap. I better get a 1st rd. pick and rotation player for taking Tyler Johnson's contract? yeh I'm sure that's reasonable.

Keep Tyler Johnson out of here. All of his numbers are down from last year. You could play Lin for the first half of the season as a showcase then trade him for a role player to clear cap space

I don't think he will play next season.

If so I think it'll be limited and he'll be a shell of himself like PG13 the season he broke his leg or Kobe the first season after the torn Achilles

i'd rather pay Lin 13 million to sit in street clothes for 82 games then take on Tyler Johnsons contract when we already have a huge logjam at combo gaurd
